Foreshadowing When the author provides clues to the reader at what is to come later in the story or the play. Often characters within the play or story are unaware. Imagery Descriptive language that incorporates the senses: sight, sound, taste, touch, smell Imagery can be described through similes and metaphors although they don’t have to Example: He was a shaggy, thick-fellow; his coat was greasy about the lapels and pockets, and his hand splayed over the cane's crook with a futile sort of clinging.
