1 Hand and Dish Washing

2 Why is washing dishes important?
Bacteria grow on dishes and utensils that have not been thoroughly cleaned, rinsed, and dried. Dirty dishes, utensils, and food scraps left sitting in the kitchen can attract ants, mice, or other pests.

3 Dish Washing Step 1: Getting the Dishes Ready Step 2: Wash in Order
1st: Glassware 2nd: Flatware (spoons, forks, & knives) 3rd: Tableware (plates, bowls, etc) 4th: Serving Dishes 5th: Pots, Pans and Other Utensils Step 3: Rinse Step 4: Dry Step 5: Clean Up

4 Hand Washing Wash hands with warm water and soap for 20 seconds before and after handling any food. Wash food-contact surfaces (cutting boards, dishes, utensils, countertops) with hot, soapy water after preparing each food item. Rinse fruits and vegetables thoroughly under cool running water and use a produce brush to remove surface dirt. Do not rinse raw meat and poultry before cooking in order to avoid spreading bacteria to areas around the sink and countertops.
