6 Reaganomics Reagan’s first order of business was to tackle the domestic issues in the U.S. The economy 2) His plan: Reaganomics Based on the theory of supply-side economics A) Lowering income taxes for the wealthy will boost the economy and “trickle down” B) People would invest their tax savings in businesses and boost the economy

11 Iran-Contra Affair 3) To fund the Contras without the help of Congress, the Reagan administration looked to Iran. Iran was holding American hostages in the country of Lebanon The Reagan administration cut a deal with Iran by selling them weapons for money and the prisoners The money they got from Iran was sent to the Contras 4) This was heavily criticized and was known as the Iran-Contra Affair

12 Reagan’s Farewell Reagan was cleared from involvement in the Iran-Contra Affair His popularity was not diminished 1989 – Reagan leaves the White House popular and loved by the people 5) After Reagan, the 1988 election saw the victory of Reagan’s VP George H.W.
