Come in SILENTLY Go STRAIGHT TO YOUR SEAT Read the Daily Agenda and GET OUT MATERIALS COPY the Home Learning in PLANNER Wait for further instruction. Stick to them!!!!

8 Fears and Phobias? Each student used his/her laptop to learn and practice how to access the online textbook today in class. We also looked at some of the new features which include videos to click on that give background information or teach/reinforce a reading strategy to help build comprehension.

At the beginning of class…If the MATERIALS says comp.bks., Get out your group’s composition books. At the end of every class… Place your group members’ composition books back in the correct class period’s bin. Leave absent students’ books in the bin

20 In caddy… Get the color marker out that matches the color of the group you sit at. We will use: Sharpie to write our first and last names across the top of our comp. bks.

22 Color the top of your composition book with the color that matches your group color

23 The colored tops will help the Composition Book Manager QUICKLY find your groups’ books.

24 Use Sharpie to write your first and last name across the top of your composition book and your period: 1A, 2A, 4A, 6B, 7B, or 8B

Write “Table of Contents” across the top Open up your comp. book to the first page Write “page” in the first column Write “Title” in the second column

Every student was given a chance to check out a “pleasure” novel of his/her choice AND sent to the LaVilla library to check out a biography/autobiography Both should be brought to Language Arts class EVERY DAY. We had our first official S.S.R. today I modeled how to fill out the form today and where to place it in their portfolio (binder kept in class). You will see a grade in FOCUS based on the rubric detailed in the Reading Expectations letter sent home last week and on the following slide, if you missed it. The score is based on a 5 point scale. 5 = 100 4 = 3 = 70 2 = 60 1 = 50 0 = 0

Write your first and last name on a sticky note , stick it on the front of the book, and place it in the Book Return bin..

51 What to do if you do not have a book…
Get an Impact book from me. Pick an article that sounds interesting from the Table of Contents. Record the date, title (author if you can find it) of the article, start and stop page on your RRR. Return the Impact book to me at the end of SSR.

53 Home Learning Every student should be reading toward his/her 300 page reading goal for the quarter and reading in his/her biography, taking notes to use to complete the biography book report due at the end of the 9 weeks. I will give 5 options for the biography book report next class. Each student may pick the option that best fits his/her interests. The options include: Report Power point Dress Up/ monologue Time Capsule Poster

54 Clean-Up Procedure “Clean-Up!” will be announced a 5 minutes before the bell rings by a student helper. STOP what you’re doing and put away composition books, portfolios, caddy materials, and any other class items. There is NO TALKING while cleaning up. Pick up any trash or dropped items in the area around your group. You may talk using a level 1 (WHISPER voice) ONLY if all materials are put away while STAYING SEATED until the TEACHER…NOT the bell…dismisses you.
