Well, it’s complicated - There are three parts to spec-driven piping: Master Catalog of Pipes, Fittings, Insulations (Resource Files) Fitting Libraries (CAD models) Specs (More Resource Files) Managing Data & Adding to the Catalog Requires an Expert

6 Example update to a Master Catalog
To create a new pipe family… in Creo 3 New “pipe family” file must be created Pipe File Pipe Diameter File Pipe Thickness File Then additionally, piping_manufacture_dir.ptd piping_material.ptd piping_mcat_dir.ptd piping_unit_system_dic_file.ptd New and improved in Creo 4 Files now use CSV instead of PTD format Some files improve with consolidation However, data translation is therefore not a 1-to-1 Upgrading from Creo 3 will be a manual process Large Number of Files Must Be Maintained Pipes, Fittings, Insulations, Bends, Miter, etc Values Must be Typed Exactly Requires Expertise to Create & Manage

To create a new ‘spec’ in a ‘project’ Desired pipes must be added from the Master Catalog Desired fitting families must also be added Models must all have correct data Data must match the Master Catalog Sizes, End Types, and Schedules Fitting Categories (groups) All items in the spec must point to the appropriate file in the master catalog Data Must Match the Master Catalog PTD, CSV, & INP File Formatting Multiple Projects Difficult to Maintain Difficult to Ensure Your Team Is Up-to-Date Take-Away: Spec-Driven Piping is very Powerful, but can be Time-Consuming to Set Up & Maintain.
