1 Welcome Rockstars! Mrs. Reed Kindergarten Ridgeview Elementary

2 Introductions: I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA (GO STEELERS!!!).
This is my 10th year of teaching. I have taught in North Carolina, Florida, and Colorado.. My husband recently retired from the USAF after 20 years of service. We have one son who is 2 ½ years old and two small dogs.

4 Arrival Kindergarten students will play in the front playground from 8:05- 8:15 a.m. Parents may wait outside of the gate until students line- up. We line up at 8:15 and walk inside, parents say their goodbye’s outside. If you arrive after 8:15, please walk your child into the office. They tardy bell rings at 8:20 a.m. There is high student and vehicle traffic, please be aware of entrances and crosswalks. Allow room for students to enter safely and follow adult guidance for traffic lanes.

5 Dismissal Kindergarten students will line up and walk outside to the front playground from 3:20-3:25. Parents pick-up by the teacher identified gate. There is high student and vehicle traffic, please be aware of exits and crosswalks. Allow room for students to exit safely and follow adult guidance for traffic lanes.

6 Daily Schedule 8:05-8:15- Drop off at the preschool playground
8:15 –Students enter, morning work, attendance, pledge, lunch count 8:35-8:45Morning meeting, good things, calendar 8:45-9:25- Interventions and literacy stations 9:25-9:50- Enrichments 9:55-10:10- Recess 10:15-11:15-CKLA-skills strand 11:20-12:05- Recess and lunch 12:05-12:20- Bathroom Break 12:20-1:00- CKLA-listening and learning strand 1:00-1:20- Math 1:25-1:50- Enrichments 1:50-2:10 Math 2:15-2:30- Recess 2:35-3:15 Science/Social Studies/Lexia/Writing/Theme 3:20- Dismissal

7 Home to School Communication
Newsletters will be sent weekly/monthly depending on teacher The daily folder will contain communication from the classroom and school. The district website and Facebook page are excellent resources Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences As a team, Kindergarten teachers are committed to honor the time after school in the evenings and weekends with our family and allow or focus to be on them. We have an expectation to respond to your s/voic s within 24 hours and we will adhere to that. Communication received before 8:00 am or after 4:30 pm will be responded to at our earliest convenience during school hours.

8 Curriculum We are using the Common Core State Standards in all areas.
This year we are using Core Knowledge Language Arts for all language arts, Writing, Science and Social Studies. We are using Guiding Kinders Math Workshop for our Math Standards.

9 Homework and Grading Monthly homework calendars have activities and skills to practice at home. Nightly reading for 20 minutes. Quarterly Home-to-School projects reinforce learning, inspire creativity, and improve oral presentation skills. Standards-based grading: A/4= Advanced (beyond grade level), P/3= Proficient(right on target), PP/2=Partially Proficient (still needs support), NP/1= Not progressing. Stickers, smiley faces, stars or checkmarks indicate work was been looked at, but no grade was given.

11 Rewards The sliding scale of student behavior is continuous, a child goes up and down as the child choices prove positive or poor. Every day each student will start off on GREEN=ready to learn! Individuals can move up to blue, purple and PINK! Rewards include: INDIVIDUAL- letters/phone calls home, visits to the treasure box, lunch with teacher, being a class reader, and signing the Rockstar autograph book CCLASS- fill the baseball mitt and we celebrate with a class Jared Jensen park is one of our class rewards. If you choose for your child not to attend, please fill out a denial form at the office.

12 Consequences Students can move their clip down to yellow, orange, and red due to poor choice making. Students can be removed from activities or events for poor choices. Some consequences include: verbal warnings, a hallway chat, refocus sheets, walking the think track, or an office referral.

13 Triangle: 21st Century Learning
Enrichment Schedule Students will have 2 opportunities for enrichments daily at 9:25 and 1:25. Circle: Art Square: Music, P.E. Triangle: 21st Century Learning Rectangle: IPADS Oval: P.E., Music The schedule varies so please have your child where PE appropriate shoes daily.

14 Birthday Celebrations and Snack
Only healthy snacks and water can be consumed during the school day, as we are under our Wellness Policy & Coordinated School Health Plan. Please bring nut free snacks due to allergies. Please place snack in front pocket of the backpack-not in the lunchbox. Please send your child to school with a water bottle daily. 2 recess and snack times daily -9:55 & 2:15 Party invitations need to be mailed, unless everyone is invited. Consider bringing a “birthday book” as we have a no food birthday policy in place (trinkets or other non-food items can be handed out in goody bags). We sing “Happy Birthday” Students receive a birthday pencil from the office .

15 Breakfast and Lunch Breakfast students arrive 7:45 – 8:05am and buzz into the office at the front doors. Breakfasts is served daily in the cafeteria. It is not served the first week of school. Students may bring a sack lunch or purchase a hot lunch from the school cafeteria. If they bring a sack lunch, please make sure their first and last name is written on their lunchbox in permanent marker. You may send your child to school with cash/check for lunch money or you can charge your students lunch money account online (follow the link on our website at Students can give their lunch money to me first thing in the morning, and I will send it to the cafeteria. You are welcomed to join your child for lunch at any time. Please sign in at the office and wear a visitor’s badge for security purposes.

17 Fee and School Supplies
Classroom fees are $20. They will pay for classroom supplies, activities, enrichment materials, and other curriculum related items we’ll use throughout the year. You can make checks payable to Ridgeview Elementary. School Supplies: some supplies are shared, no labels needed Some supplies are NOT shared, labels needed-scissors and headphones

18 Volunteers We love help! You can volunteer for field trips, parties, Watch D.O.G.S and weekly classroom support after completing the background check. Please see the front office for details.

19 How to Contact me: - I do not always get an opportunity to check during the instructional day. I choose to devote all of my time and effort into engaging directly with the students while they are with me. If there is an urgent issue that needs my attention before the end of the school day, please call the school.

20 Before you GO…. *Please make sure you have filled out and returned a student information form, emergency information form, and library form,. Please fill out the transportation form and the class directory. You may take the Jitter Glitter, goodie bag, Parent Handbooks, and enrichment letter home with you.  *Please take your child’s headphones out of the packaging, label them, and place them in the ziploc bag. Please put the headphone bag in the basket under their backpack hook. Their basket will have a clip with your child’s name. *Please write your child’s name on their scissors with a black sharpie and leave in the caddy at their table. *Please make sure I know how your child is going home from school each day.
