1 Baby-MIND Modules & Services
Mechanical Design Assembly Mode Integration on Armco magnet Cabling Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016

2 Mechanical Design (in a few words)
Each module contains (18 modules in total…!!): 95 horizontal scintillating bars, 16 vertical scintillating bars and is constructed as a sandwich (the scintillating bars are inside 2 aluminum plates fixed on an aluminum frame and protected as in a turtle shell) Every scintillating bars are read out by SiPM on either sides (except for vertical bars). Modules are built in 2 parts (symmetrical). The position of the scintillating bars in each part of the module makes a cross like a trigger. Precise pitch between bars is defined by plastic spacers (see next..). Spacers simultaneously position the horizontal and vertical bars on each module part. The two parts of the module are also offset to have more surface detection. SiPM and interface wiring are also protected on 2 sides + Top by aluminum covers (compact design), and also for a safe and easy handling. Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016

3 Module Back part (Magnet side)
Contains 48 scintillating horizontal bars + 8 scintillating vertical bars. Aluminium Frame and reinforcements PCB Electronic board Covers Vertical scintillating bars Horizontal scintillating bars Spacers Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016

4 Module Front part (Beam side)
Contains 47 scintillating horizontal bars + 8 scintillating vertical bars. Holes for PCB Electronic board fixation Aluminium Frame and reinforcements Horizontal scintillating bars Spacers Stoppers (top and bottom) to prevent vertical sagging… Vertical scintillating bars Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016

5 Complete Module (Both back+front assembled)
Aluminium plate (same for 2 parts) Module Front part Fixation holes on Armco magnet (4 corners) Module Back part Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016

6 Assembly Mode in a few steps…
3 identical assembly stands with counterweight on the craddle + Rotation system (every 45 degrees increments). Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016

7 Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016
Step 1 (same process for both back and front parts) Aluminium frame assembly, Plastic spacers and Aluminium plate on the back. 45 ° orientation (to secure the assembly) Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016

8 Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016
Step 2 (same process for the back and the front parts) Half module frame Transfert on another assembly structure + Scintillating bars insertion (first, the vertical ones, then the horizontal ones…). Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016

9 Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016
Step 3 (same process for both back and front parts) Insert the inner reinforcements. Laurent NICOLA / Franck CADOUX CERN meeting November 3, 2016
