EA meeting, Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 TT installation, Jeroen van Tilburg 1 TT installation Installation of the TT station

EA meeting, Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 TT installation, Jeroen van Tilburg 2 Preparations PPSPS document written, WPA meeting yesterday. Transport: Monday 11 th of Dec from ZH to CERN. Transport boxes (see next slides). Transport from CERN-Meyrin to pit 8. → custom formalities. Exercised station assembly and cooling in ZH. See next slides. Requirements in cavern: Magnet balconies and ladders. Platforms (4.2m and 5.2m). → cover plates 4.2m platform C-side missing. Cranes (SX8, UX85, RB84). Iron blocks for cable chain support. → still to be welded to magnet. Co-activities VELO RF-boxes: no welding while tank is open. Preparations for the beam pipe installation.

EA meeting, Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 TT installation, Jeroen van Tilburg 3 Organization When: week 50, starting Monday 11-12-06 Who: from ZH: Stefan Steiner, Angela Buechler, JvT from CERN: transport, crane operation Steps 1.Transport of 2 aluminium C-frames (1 box) and 4 filled cable chains (4 pallets) from surface to cavern using crane in SX8. 2.Transport in cavern of C-frames onto RB84 platform. 3.Installation of C-frames onto TT rails. 4.Transport in cavern of cable chains to RB84 platform. 5.Installation of the cable chains.

EA meeting, Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 TT installation, Jeroen van Tilburg 4 Step 1: Transport surface to cavern The C-frames are lowered in the pit in a wooden box using crane SX8. Each cable chain (filled with cable) is lowered on a EURO-pallet with side panels and top cover using crane SX8. All boxes are moved with forklift in reach for the UX85 crane. Box dimensions: 2800x1700x1140 mm 3. Weight: 1020 kg. Reinforcement for the use of straps. Dimensions: 800x1200x500 mm 3 Weight: 120 kg. If possible return euro- pallets to transport company by interchanging with empty ones.

EA meeting, Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 TT installation, Jeroen van Tilburg 5 Step 2: Transport C-frames in cavern Take C-frames out of box using UX85 crane. Move 1 C-frame to 4.2 m RB84 platform (A-side). Move other C-frame over the magnet to 5.2 m platform (C-side). Plastic hoses for protection of the straps C-frame envelop: 2750x1400x500 mm 3. Weight: 250 kg. Standard lifting tool (palonier) required.

EA meeting, Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 TT installation, Jeroen van Tilburg 6 Step 3: Put C-frame on rails Move C-frames in front of TT rails using small manual forklift. C-frame rests on support blocks. C-frame is lifted in “normal” (vertical) position using the RB84 crane. C-side: additional turn around vertical axis required. C-frame is lifted onto the 2 L-brackets connected to the TT rails. C-side:Put L-brackets below 5.2m platform on 4.2m platform. No dismantling of 5.2m platform needed. The C-frame is lifted in “normal” position. The L-brackets for gliding the C-frame on the rails. The C-frame is lifted by its first hole.

EA meeting, Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 TT installation, Jeroen van Tilburg 7 Step 3: Put C-frame on rails Push C-frame on the L-piece manually towards rails. When C-frame is located above gliders on rails → lower positioning screws on L-piece until C-frame is standing on gliders. Straps remain attached to the crane for safety. Additional strap around upper rail. Fix C-frame to gliders on lower rail. Finally, fix it to guiders on upper rail. Access to guiders possible from TT balcony mounted on magnet. Install hard stops. The C-frame is positioned on the L-pieces. The C-frame is manually pushed to the its position above the rails. Full station (incl. dummy module)

EA meeting, Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 TT installation, Jeroen van Tilburg 8 Step 4: Cable chains to platform Install cable chain supports. Use UX85 crane to move the 4 cable chain boxes to 4.2 RB84 platform (A-side). Unpack all cables chains on platform.

EA meeting, Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 TT installation, Jeroen van Tilburg 9 Step 5: Cable chain installation Lift 2 cable chains to C-side using UX85 or RB84 crane. Mount lower cable chains manually. Lower end to support bar, upper end to C-frame. Lift upper cable chains over upper TT-rail onto support bars using RB84 crane. Fix upper end of cable chain to C-frame. Envelop: 300x500x260 mm 3. Weight: 100 kg. Straps for lifting.
