2. Riga city Public Health strategy „Healthy Riga citizen– healthy Riga” for the years 2012–2021
In year 2012 Riga City Council approved the Riga City Public health strategy for the years „Healthy Riga citizen in a healthy Riga city”.
Strategy aims to improve the health of cities inhabitants and to reduce premature deaths.

Carry out prevention of infectious diseases, educating public and promoting early initiation of treatment

Riga Municipality is providing funding for NGO “DIA+LOGS”, support centre for those affected by HIV/AIDS

5. “DIA+LOGS” (D+L) overall goal is to
eliminate the spread of HIV/AIDS,
provide support and services for HIV infected and affected persons, their friends and families and people from at-risk groups,

“DIA+LOGS” (D+L) overall goal is to eliminate the spread of HIV/AIDS, provide support and services for HIV infected and affected persons, their friends and families and people from at-risk groups, contribute to promote awareness about HIV/AIDS.

7. D+L main continuous activities
HIV prevention and harm-reduction for intravenous drug users and at-risk community groups,
including outreach and peer involvement,
HIV tests,
counselling,
mobile unit,
psycho-social support,
campaigning,
advocacy work (involvement in policy development).

11. The Welfare Department of the Riga City Council offer to schools
For students:
Program „ Children risk group” for children who are at risk to start substance abusing and experimenting;
Program „Social and emotional life skill development”;
Discussions with children about health promoting themes, for example - tobacco, alcohol, marihuana and STI, HIV/AIDS...
Next year Welfare department is planning to creat program separatly for girles and boys, where specialists (gynecologists, urologists) will talk with students about hygiene, STI, HIV/AIDS.
For parents:
Specialists are invited to parents meetings in schools, lecturer prepares presentations about many themes, for example:
Addiction, developing in adolescent period;
Experimenting with drugs, opportunities to help parents;
Families part in addiction prevention…

12. The Welfare Department of the Riga City Council offer to schools
For teachers:
For specialists, who work with youth we offer training programms about addiction questions and they learn more about addiction prevention
Lectures:
Infections.
Addiction. How it is developing.
How prevent addiction.
Specialist involvment in addiction prevention together with parents.
Codependence, HIV/AIDS.
Family’s part in addiction prevention
