4 Defining Features Four seasons
Leaves change colors in autumn, fall off in the winter, grow back in spring Some animal s hibernate

5 Plant Adaptation There are many types of trees and plants, during the cold winters, their leaves fall off which protect the earth and smaller plants. The trees are equipped with thick bark that protects them from the winters

6 Animal Adaptation Some animals hibernate during the winter
For example, some rodents store up fat, then hibernate during cold winters

7 Threats Air pollutants from fuels - destroying forests, killing wildlife and poisoning the soil Acid rain - damages their leaves and causes production of smaller fruit and less seeds used in reproduction Clearing land for use in agriculture and clear cut logging - destroyed and continue to destroy millions of trees Mining - damaged to the extent that forests do not re-grow on the damaged and depleted soils
