2 About the State- Basics
17.5% of country’s population reside in U.P. of which 73% live in rural areas. With population density of 828 per sq. km, female to male ratio in the State is 908 : 1000 Total literacy rate of the State is 69.72% (Men % & Women – 59.26%) and Rural literacy is 67.6% (Men-76.33% & Women-48.48% ) Rural birth rate is 29.2 per 1000 against National average of Infant mortality rate is 61 per live births against National average of 47. 3 About the State- Basics
Share of total main workers ( lacs) by total population is 24% of which 15.14% are engaged in agriculture & allied activities. Unemployment rate is 8.2%. Agriculture and allied sectors are the main source of livelihood but do not provide full time employment. 31% of the total rural families are below poverty line (BPL 2002 survey). 7 Deen Dayal Upadhyaya State Institute of Rural Development (DDU SIRD) General
An apex training Institute of State Govt. and umbrella organization for training, research and consultancy services in the field of various developmental activities and social sector schemes in rural areas. The organization apart from the SIRD, consists of 17 Regional Institutes of Rural Development (RIRDs) and 33 District Institutes of Rural Development (DIRDs). Continue……

9 DDU SIRD General Initially the Institute was established by Govt. of India in the year as ‘Orientation And Study Centre’ (OASC) under National Extension Service Scheme. Later the Centre was upgraded as ‘State Institute of Rural Development’ in the year 1982 and transferred to the State Govt. In the year 1991 the Institute was rechristened as ‘Deen Dayal Upadhyaya State Institute of Rural Development’ after the name of Shri Deen Dayal Upadhyaya; famous ideologue and thinker Continue…..

10 DDU SIRD General A State Govt. department, the Institute is managed by Management Council chaired by Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC), Govt. of U.P and comprising Principal Secretaries/Secretaries of Finance, Planning, Rural Development and Appointment & Personnel Departments of Govt. of U.P. Executive functions of the Institute and day to day management are discharged by the Director General; a very senior member of Indian Administrative Services of U.P. Cadre.

12 Mission To enable people centric equitable development. Recognizing that capacity building of Institutions and individuals is as critical for effective public service as water is for life, the Institute strives to achieve comprehensive augmentation of basic skills of the human resource in various sectors at multiple layers of governance, including that of elected representatives of Local Self-Governments.

13 Objectives The Institute with its constituent RIRDs/DIRDs, endeavors to promote and provide help in achieving development of rural communities; specially the rural poor - To conduct training programmes, organizing conferences, seminars and workshops for senior, middle and lower level development managers and other stakeholders. 14 Objectives To provide Consultancy Services to Government and Non-Government organizations and other National & International agencies/organizations. To spread mass awareness through IEC. To disseminate information through publication of books, papers, periodicals and films in furtherance of these objectives.

18 Centre for Development Action
To provide for functional autonomy, an organization under the name of Centre for Development Action (CDA) has been established and registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860. The CDA facilitates and assists SIRD, RIRDs and DIRDs in organizing and conducting training programmes, research & evaluation projects and seminars/workshops. The CDA supplements and contributes infrastructure in SIRD, RIRDs & DIRDs.

19 Arya Bhatt Centre for Satellite Communication (SATCOM)
With the objective of increasing and standardizing educational and training opportunities with the help of modern technology; specially space technology, the SIRD has undertaken integration of all training Institutes under the EDUSAT Project of ISRO. Under the project studio and Earth station at SIRD and SITs at RIRDs/DIRDs level are to be established. The project is under implementation.

Apart from regular faculties and resource persons the SIRD and constituent RIRDs & DIRDs have empanelled more than 1200 resource persons in various fields whose services are hired from time to time as per requirement. For specific commissioned projects of Study, Research and Evaluation the Institute hires the services of various educational Institutes, Research Foundations and NGOs of repute.
