2 Mr. Zindman and Mrs. Herron’s Class
Before we start class, you must fill out an interest inventory and student information sheet. Make sure you answer all the questions in complete sentences This inventory counts as a class grade. Answer the questions to the best of your knowledge to get 100% You can not skip any questions! The inventory will be collected and graded. Lets get 100% from everyone. We can do it!

5 My Background My Experience I grew up on Long Island.
I went to school on Long Island. I Graduated Penn State, S.U.N.Y at Stony Brook and Hofstra Universities. I have degrees in Psychology and a master’s degree in Education. My Experience I’ve been teaching for many years. I love teaching middle school! I love MLO! I think the students at MLO are the greatest!

8 Goals for the To give you the academic tools you need to progress in the middle school. In this class we will learn about World History. To provide a supportive learning environment. Having a set of rules to ensure that we have a positive learning environment. To have fun while we learn. To make new friends and discover new interests.

To learn how to apply world history of American culture to your own life. To improve my reading, writing, and oral skills. To help you make better decisions in your life based on the lessons we learn in school.

17 What will I learn in English Language Arts Class?
Narrative writing* Expository writing (descriptive, explanation, comparison and contrast, problem/solution)* Technical writing (friendly letters, thank-you notes, instructions, web pages)* Persuasive writing/Speech writing and delivery* Poetry Short stories Mythology/Folklore Sentence Fluency and Construction Vocabulary Standard grammar and mechanics To prepare for the New York State Examination in English Language Arts.

21 How world history has effected the life of many cultures
How world history has effected the life of many cultures. For example, the struggle to end slavery. How can we use the knowledge from world history to make the world a better place for all cultures. How can learning about history can prepare you for your future.

Strict rules and appropriate behavior must be followed in using the internet.

25 No eating or chewing gum or candy in class. With exception to breakfast supplied by MLO. Keep your area clean! Be a good friend to your classmates. Respect one another! Be polite! Please control your bodily functions. Ask to use the bathroom when needed. Always follow directions and listen to your teacher. No teasing or bullying others. Do not waste time if you leave the room. Come back promptly! Keep your hands (and feet) to yourself. Respect other scholars by not disrupting them. Be a good friend. Be supportive when working in groups. Leave toys (like video games and tablets) at home. Keep cell phones off in backpacks or your pocket. Ask for help when you need it.

26 You must ask appropriately and politely to use the bathroom
You must ask appropriately and politely to use the bathroom. You must have permission! You must have an agenda bathroom pass issued from an adult to gain access to the bathroom. No bathroom passes are to be issued the first and last ten minutes of every period. No passes will be issued during important class activities. No bathroom passes issued for poor class behavior. If you continue to misbehavior you will lose bathroom privileges for the day or even the week! Be Smart! Don’t misbehave and the expect to use the bathroom! No bathroom passes first or last period of the day!

31 Consequences An adult will change your class seat.
Loss of Privileges? Bathroom A phone call or letter sent home to a parent. A behavior referral to a principal Consequences

32 No cell phones or communication devices in class!
If discovered they will be taken and given to Mrs. Herron or Mr. Zindman. It will be returned at the end of the class if you abide by these rules. If you do not listen the phone will be held for the remainder of the day. If you still do not listen… it will be given to a school security officer and thus Mr. Vanterpool!

33 Computers are only to be used for computer class assignments from Mr
Computers are only to be used for computer class assignments from Mr. Zindman exclusively! Do not abuse the computers! If you are caught sneaking on the computer playing games, or listening to music you will be disconnected and lose computer privileges! If you still refuse to cooperate, your parents and the technology department will be contacted and you will loose district wide computer privileges.

35 Midterm and final exams account for 33% of your final grade
Your grading will be determined in the following manner: 40% Class Activities 50% Class exams 10% Homework Total: 100% of your grade = Quarter grade
