3 Language Arts – Treasures Program
Reading Vocabulary work Comprehension activities Weekly assessments Responding to open ended questions Spelling, Phonics and Grammar lesson Guided Reading – The teacher meets with small groups to work on skills depending on the students’ needs Independent Reading - “Just Right Books” Reading WKSHP-Shared Reading - This is the time where I do a mini-lesson….what I’d like for the students to work on that day. Word Work - This time is spent working on word skills and phonics….PAF. Guided Reading - The teacher meets with small groups to work on skills depending in the students needs. Independent Reading – Just Right Books. SF- anthologies comprised of thematic authentic children’s literature. Integrated reading, writing and spelling skills and strategies.

Non-fiction Letters Expository essays Responding to open ended questions The writing process will include pre- writing, writing, editing, revision and publishing Through Writer’s Workshop students will practice writing short stories, narratives, and non-fiction. The writing process will include pre-writing, writing, editing, revision and publishing. Writes’ Workshop is the only time we do not “correct” spelling. We do not want to interrupt the writing process. I tell the students to STRETCH OUT the sounds as much as they can. They may also use their “Words I Use When I Write” Book.

11 PARCC The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is a group of states working together to develop a set of assessments that measure whether students are on track to be successful in college and their careers. 3rd Grade Testing Schedule: May 2-5, 2016 3 sections Language Arts and 3 sections of Math Westwood PARCC information

12 Class Celebrations & Field Trips
In October, we'll have our school costume parade, as well as our classroom Halloween party! Field Trip: WOW Museum, December, Theaterworks, March In December/January, we'll celebrate the winter holidays with a small celebration. By June, we'll be ready to say goodbye to 3rd grade and hello to summer! We will have a fun End of the Year Celebration combined with the other third grade class The “class parties” will include Halloween, winter, & End of the Year. Field Trips- 2; Meadowlands Environmental Center & Sterling Hill Mining Museum

13 Policies & Procedures Please label EVERYTHING with your child's full name – particularly lunch bags, coats, hats and mittens, as these are frequently misplaced! Please make sure your child brings lunch and a small bottle of water each day. Birthday treats: Are welcome, please be considerate of sending in a “NUT” free treat. Also send in napkins/plates if needed. If your child is buying lunch, the money needs to be in an envelope with your child's name on it. Your child may also bring in fruits and/or veggies for a “working snack.” Send a spoon when needed for snack items.

14 Policies & Procedures PLEASE send a note, if someone else picking up your child from school. Most Importantly- Be On Time! It can be very disruptive to our classmates when other students come in late on a regular basis.

15 Other Information Scholastic Book Orders, can be done online use access code L7C3N Parent/Teacher Conferences –online sign up genius- Afternoon conferences - October 26 & 27 - Evening conferences on October 28, Online sign-up Report Cards will be sent home in November, please sign & return the envelope. You may keep the report card. Overview of my website Please save the evening conference times for the working parents. Remember to be on time to the conference, they are only 15 min.
