1 Back to School Night August 28 th 4 th Grade Mrs. Peterson

2 Forms to Sign On your child’s desk you will find a media release to sign and leave on their desk. I already have this from some people. There is also a field trip permission form to sign and leave. If you have $2, place in envelope. Otherwise, send along with your child. The $5 class fund envelope is up front as well.

3 Daily Schedule 8:50-8:40—Morning Work 8:45-9:45 – Specials 9:50-12:00- Literature Block 9:50-10:20 – Writing 10:20-12:10 - Reading (Intervention: 11:30-12:10) 12:10-12:40 – Lunch/ Recess 12:45-1:45 – Math 1:45-2:35 – Science/Social Studies 2:30-3:00 –Intervention Block 2:55-3:15 – Recess 3:20-3:35 - Planners, Pack up, Dismiss

4 Reading LEAD 21 Includes small, flexible reading groups that meet with the teacher four times per week. On the fifth day, students meet in small collaborative groups to work on an inquiry project. There are differentiated readers to meet your child's needs, virtual field trips, half fiction/half non-fiction texts, and multiple online resources. Vocabulary and comprehension skill strategies are embedded into the program. There are many whole group, small group and independent opportunities for students to engage in daily. Greek and Latin Roots will be done weekly and Mountain Language will address grammar each week.

5 Math Envision -Daily Common Core Review, Visual Learning Animation, Interactive Learning, Guided Practice, Independent Practice, Quick Assessment, Enrichment, Homework. Home practice of multiplication facts 0-12

6 Writer’s Workshop Mini-Lessons 10-15 minutes Majority of time for kids to write Teacher conducts conferences Students share writing with class and get feedback We will also have pen pals from Hawaii!

7 Social Studies History Alive Geography- continents, oceans, latitude, longitude, map skills, etc. Native Americans Explorers Settlements & Colonies Slavery Colonial Williamsburg

8 Science FOSS curriculum- hands-on experiences. Customary & Metric Measurement Rocks and Minerals Inquiry Sound/Ear Weather Landforms Magnetism & Electricity Will be switching teachers for science and social studies.

10 Classroom Management Ticket System Items for Purchase-quarterly auctions Our two class rules 1) It is never ok to be hurtful 2) It is never ok to be disruptive. Safe Seat/Think Sheet

11 Homework Our homework policy in fourth grade is: All homework will be given a due date. Students not completing work on time will be asked to fill out a homework slip. Homework slips will need to be signed by a parent and turned in the next day with the completed homework. If an assignment is more than one day late, the student will complete it during recess in study hall.

15 Snack/Treat Policy All treats brought to school for birthdays or holiday parties should be on the approved district list. You can view this list on the district website. Please pre- cut treats if necessary. Students may bring a daily healthy snack and water bottle with a lid.
