2 Third Grade Working snack at 10:00-please make it small and manageable as it is a working snack All grades are posted on Realtime If your child is being dismissed with someone else, you must notify us through note, or phone call *CONFERENCES* sign up outside of classroom doors at the conclusion of this presentation

3 Third Grade Students are expected to copy down homework assignments for each class. Homework/tests are posted on teacher websites At the end of the day, students are also expected to check their assignment sheets to make sure they have everything they need before leaving school each day.

4 Class Celebrations Birthdays Class Parties
Students can bring in birthday treats. Please be mindful of children with allergies! To avoid disappointment, please send in all of the same treats. Class Parties All approved celebrations are listed on the school website. (PTA) Please note the following four classroom celebrations: Halloween, winter holiday (no holiday cards), spring holiday, end of year

5 Homework Policy MATH: Students receive homework typically Monday-Thursday Each missing assignment will result in a 5 point deduction off of the homework grade. ELA: Homework is due on Friday each week. If a student is absent, they are still required to do the same homework for the week. Missing weekly reading will result in 5 points off of a student’s Reading homework grade. Missing a weekly writing assignment will result in 5 points off a students Language Art’s homework grade.

6 Technology Chromebooks are used weekly in classroom instruction: Typing skills, world language, ELA and Math instruction PARCC test is taken on the Chromebooks Each class has their own set of Chromebooks! This has made a positive difference in the student’s ability to navigate the PARCC test.

7 PARCC - ELA PARCC doesn't measure what you can remember, but what skills and strategies you can APPLY! Fiction and nonfiction literature Always asked to support answers with evidence from the text Demonstrate understanding of vocabulary within the story by using context clues WRITING TASK: Compare and contrast two texts Use details from the text to write a story Include the importance of illustrations **Essay vs. story writing (beginning, middle, end). Parent questions?

8 PARCC - Math PARCC measures basic skills and requires students to apply learned strategies. Basic computation without the use of calculators Multi-step word problems involving multiple operations Constructed responses Parent questions?

9 Social Studies/Science
We meet 4 days per week Social Studies marking periods 1&2 Science marking periods 3&4 Students will be assessed on: vocabulary tests and open book chapter tests Participation Point will be deducted for incomplete heading, misspelled words that are in the word bank or in the test itself
