5 Our School Information Senior Leadership Team

8 Starting school in August 2016
Week 1 – w/c Day 1 (24th) – staggered start times Day 2 (25th) – line up in house groups outside classroom door for 9.00am Wednesday-Friday (24th-26th) – Collected at 12.20pm Week 2 – w/c In all day from 9.00am – 3.15pm 8

9 Childcare Provision We have Go Kids located within the school.

10 Lunchtime and Playtime
The full playground is used – allowing all children across the year groups to mix. P1-3’s go for their lunch at 12:20pm. These have been free for all P1-3 children session 2015/16 however no confirmation as to 2016/17 yet. Home lunches – should be collected from the classroom door at 12:20pm. 10

11 Loose play SfLA’s are outside at both times and there will be 1 SfLA who will be leading the Loose Play Materials with buddies and P6 pupils to support.

12 Transition Activities
We have arranged for frequent visits to the P1 classrooms – throughout April-June. Playing in the Playground. P6 buddies visit the nursery Pirate Treasure Hunt with P6 buddies Parent/Pupil Lunch General visits to the school throughout the year e.g. assemblies, performances, using the gym hall, music room, library and ICT suite. 12

13 The Curriculum Curriculum for Excellence (CfE)
For children from 3-18 years. Different levels Early – Nursery ante-pre and pre-school – P1 First – P2-4 Second – P5-7 Third – P7- Secondary school. 13

14 Numeracy Area Within this classroom the children will:
Learn number values, names and amounts Use specific games and active learning opportunities to develop knowledge.

15 Literacy Area Within this classroom the children will:
Learn sounds and phonemes Develop reading and comprehension skills Use active play based learning. Given reading books

16 Storywriting Area Within this classroom the children will:
Develop handwriting and letter formation Explore different genres for writing Develop writing skills Sentence order, VCOP

17 Managing Behaviours Children learn about themselves and others in school. They make mistakes; we forgive them We use Restorative Practices when dealing with any issues which arise. We use Rights Respecting Behaviours for pupils and staff to ensure all rights are achieved. Traffic light system is in place These are green, amber and red. 17

18 Learning Event The home learning environment has a significant impact on children’s development, and their ability and willingness to learn. A learning event on literacy and numeracy will be held in September This will be within the classrooms. 18

19 How your child can prepare for school …
Using a knife and folk Take turns Identify own name and jackets Get changed independently for PE Put gym clothes away in a gym bags Explore numbers and letters in the community 19

20 How you can help prepare your child for school …
Write their name on everything Provide School bag, pencil case and pencils PE kit Read to and with your child Encourage them to use a pencil Identify maths and language everywhere 20
