1 WELCOME TO GRADE 8 EARTH SCIENCE

2 Introductions Brief introduction about myself. Break down into pairs
Interview your partner. Name What they like to do. Chose between an earthquake, hurricane or thunderstorm, snow storm.

3 Interview Questions What is your lab partner’s best definition of an (earthquake, hurricane, thunderstorm or snow storm)? Include details. Has your lab partner ever experienced an (earthquake, hurricane, blizzard,or thunderstorm)? Explain how they felt and where they were when it happened.

4 Note card Name Address (with zip code) Email (yours and your parents)
Phone number (Cell , home…whatever line reaches your parents the fastest) Grade in science last year. What was the best experiment you did in 7th grade? Do you have home computer access?

5 Materials One Science only notebook (3 ring binder)
Folder (optional) – exclusive for Science Pencil or pen Portable 3-Hole Punch Markers

6 Rules Respect faculty and fellow students.
Follow my directions the first time they are given. Raise your hand and wait to be recognized by me or other teachers before speaking. Be on time to class. Bring all required materials to class each school day. No food, drinks, or gum chewing (During Laboratory) in class.

7 Rules (continued) As soon as you enter class, begin the “Do Now” or assigned task on the board. Homework is listed on the board and homework e-board. It is your responsibility to check.

8 EARTH SCIENCE CURRICULUM
Consists of 4 different books or modules Dynamic Planet Rocks and Landforms Climate and Weather Energy Resources

9 Notebook or Journal Very important that you keep an up to date notebook or journal Only a class set of books, books do not go home unless you have special permission Your notebook will contain the material and handouts needed to complete your homework and prepare for quizzes and tests. However, it is your responsibility to keep your notebook up to date

10 Science Journal Rules Journal must be brought to class each day
Journal is to be used exclusively for science Each day’s entry must be dated on right side of page Each day’s entry must be titled No doodles!!!!! Unless otherwise specified, questions must be answered in complete sentences

11 Answers to questions must not begin with a pronoun (you, it, she, he, they, etc.)
When completing word problems work must be shown (6 steps) Skip two lines between each day’s journal entry

12 If absent… It is your responsibility to ask a member of your lab group, or perhaps a classmate, for missing material or data There will be periodic journal or notebook checks Homework/Classwork bin located somewhere in the class (TBA).

13 Each Investigation… Begins with a Key Question (what do you and your group know before the investigation) In your group, you may complete an activity, observe a demonstration, collect or analyze data Digging Deeper section provides the material that you will need to know

14 As You Read Questions are assigned for homework (help prepare you for quizzes and the end of Module Test) Station work. Investigation Quiz (most consist of open ended questions)
