2 BACK UP to make a copy in case something happens t the files on the computer e.g. When you have important work that you want to save, it’s always a good idea to back up the files.

3 CLICK ON to move a mouse over an icon, word, or other object and click. e.g. If you click on this icon, you can change the screen color

4 GO DOWN If a computer goes down, it stops working.
E.g. If you're at work and your computer goes down, youcan't get any more work done.

5 HACK INTO To get into someone else’s computer system without permission in order to look at information or do something illegal. E.g. You needn’t be a genious to hack into a computer.

6 HOOK UP to connect to something.
e.g. You may need a different cable to hook the printer up to the computer

7 KEY IN to type in. e.g. Key in this web address and it’ll take you right to the information you want.

8 LOG IN/ON to go onto a computer network by typing in a personal code.
e.g. To check your mail, you must first log on with your ID and password.

9 LOG OFF to go off a computer network by signing out.
e.g. Please remember to log off after you’ve finished with the computer.

10 PLUG IN insert a plug into an electric outlet
E.g. She forgot to plug in her printer and was wondering why it didn’t work.

11 POP UP appear suddenly E.g. Every time I open this site, a new window pops up saying that I won a free prize.

12 POWER UP to start the power, to turn on a machine.
e.g. I need to power up the computer, so I can get started with my project.

13 PRINT OUT to make a copy of something from a computer or a word processor. e.g. I’ll print out that article for you and leave it n your mailbox at work.

14 PULL DOWN to click on a word or item that opens up a list of options or functions. e.g. If you click on the word “tools,” it will pull down a list of options.

15 SCROLL DOWN to move gradually to the top of text or graphics.
e.g. Scroll down the page bottom and you’ll find the name of the web designer.

16 SCROLL UP to move gradually to the top of text or graphics.
e.g. Scroll up until you find the search box, then type in your question

17 SET UP to assemble or prepare a piece of hardware.
e.g. You have to set up the modem before you can connect to the Internet.

18 SHUT DOWN to turn off a computer.
e.g. If you’re leaving for the day, shut down your computer

19 SWITCH ON to turn something on.
e.g. Can you switch on the photocopier for me, please?

20 TURN OFF to shut down an operation, to stop the flow of energy by the use of a button or switch. e.g. She turned off the spell checker before beginning to type in the document.

21 TURN ON to activate or cause to energize by the use of a button or a switch. e.g. Could you turn on the TV? I want to watch the news.

22 WIPE OUT to remove information stored on part of a computer (esp. memory, hard disk). E.g. Major events can wipe out entire computer systems, and more often than not, individual files will be lost and need to be restored.
