IT Badge Support – Stage 1

Before switching on make sure an adult has checked your computer is plugged in safely and the electricity is switched on at the socket. It's a good idea to turn on the screen first, then any other things plugged into your computer, like speakers, printer, modem or scanner. Then press the On/Off switch on your computer. You turn your computer on last because it has to check that all the things plugged into it are working properly, and and it can only do this if they are already switched on. Switching on your computer safely. IT Badge Support – Stage 1

Just like switching on, there's a correct way to close down too. If you don't close down your computer properly, you could get errors and the next time you switch on you'll have to check for them. Before switching off, make sure that you've closed down any program you're working with. If the program has a File menu, click on File then click on Close. Don't just turn the On/Off switch on your computer but shut down properly using the Start button at the bottom left of your computer screen (it's on the Taskbar Switching off your computer safely. 4 Click the Start button. Click Turn Off computer. Select Turn Off Before you begin to shut down, make sure that you haven't left a floppy disk in your computer's floppy disk drive because this will stop your computer being switched on next time. 8 Activity 1 - Produce a poster showing a Scouting activity. Think of a poster as a picture the size of an ordinary sheet of paper. It's not difficult to produce something simple displaying an activity you've enjoyed doing in Scouting. This might be something like playing football or taking part in a jamboree but it could be anything. The poster should include some clip art and a few words announcing what the activity is about. Try and make it as colourful and as interesting as possible. Experiment with different borders and background colours and textures IT Badge Support – Stage 1

Activity 2 - Produce a simple picture. Show off your drawing skills by making your own picture. Draw anything you want but keep it nice and simple - you could draw something funny if you like! For this requirement you'll need to use painting software such as Paint that comes as part of Windows To start Paint click on Start, then Programs, then Accessories and then click on Paint. You'll need the drawing and painting tools down the left side of the screen. The Paint Toolbox will let you create your own drawing, change it if you're not happy with it, fill it in with colours and add words to your picture. IT Badge Support – Stage 1

Use software on CD-ROM. Most software you would use or install on your computer comes on CD-ROM. This includes everything from the basic programs your computer uses that let you type out words or make up pictures right through to the games you play. For this requirement, choose any software you have on CD-ROM, pop it into your computer's CD- ROM drive and spend a few minutes using it. IT Badge Support – Stage 1

For this requirement we would like you to make a list of rules to follow so that you can enjoy the Internet without having to worry. These rules are simple do's and don'ts – things you should or shouldn't do before you go on the Internet, while you are on and after you come off.
