When are they needed? Private/independent universities Scholarships Internships Employment Steps to request a letter of recommendation Go to for template Complete template with background info Give teachers, counselors, administrators at least two weeks notice Make deadline clear Thank you notes

5 Financial Aid/Scholarship Info
Who should apply? fafsa.gov All students continuing their education ANY TYPE OF COLLEGE Private/Independent – Check Deadlines and Additional Paperwork FAFSA priority filing October 1, to March 2, 2017 Cash for College Wednesday, October 26, 2016 Important Step 1: FSA ID: fsaid.ed.gov All families should complete FAFSA regardless of income All students applying to Private Universities should complete the CSS Profile in addition to FAFSA – Check university websites All seniors should check “Outside Scholarships” list weekly on website go to the College and Career Center tab and watch for updates through NAVIANCE All seniors should participate in the Local Scholarship Program All seniors should look at college and university financial aid pages for merit scholarships

6 Transcripts How do I request an Official or Unofficial Transcript?
Request form in office – Ms. Moses’ desk Parent signature required if you are under 18 $3 for each transcript requested Follow the directions on the form Allow one to two weeks for processing Common App exception 6

7 College Admission Tests
ACT SAT Subject Tests Things to Remember: Most four year universities require tests to be completed by December - some earlier - check individual campus websites Send official scores - colleges and universities will use the highest College applications, report already received scores and/or planned dates CSU Code:3594, UC: send to 1 UC and all UCs get it, NCAA Code:9999 See Dates to Remember handout Take ACT + writing and SAT + essay to cover all campuses Subject tests at more competitive campuses and specific majors

Students who want to spend two to three years more at home after high school Students who don’t meet the four year college requirements during high school but have the desire and motivation to pursue a degree Students who don’t get into 1st choice four year university Financial savings Hands on learners Students who want to finish their education within 12 to 24 months after graduating high school

CSU: Four year public university system in CA 23 campuses statewide College admission test required 2.0 or higher in “a-g” college entrance requirements Students who are at least in the top 30% of graduating class UC: Premier 4 year public university system in CA 9 campuses statewide College admission test required/some competitive majors - subject tests 3.0 or higher in “a-g”college entrance requirements Students who are at least in the top 12% of graduating class Application Deadline: November 30, 2016
