2. What is Governor’s School?
The Tennessee Governor’s Schools are special summer programs for talented tenth and eleventh grade students currently enrolled in Tennessee’s public and private high schools
The programs are demanding and require students who are high achievers. Eligible students should rank in the top of their high school class in academic performance/capability or should be highly talented in the arts.
Each Governor’s School application outlines specific student eligibility criteria. This information can be found within the applications for each school.

3. How Do I Apply?
Applications for Governor’s School are available for download at
Students must submit completed applications to Mrs. Howard by the required BHS deadline.

4. Application Deadlines
Applications must be postmarked no later than Dec. 2, 2016 (unless otherwise noted on page 2 of the specific Governor’s School application packet).
Applications for the Arts must be postmarked by November 4, 2016.
Bartlett High School will have an earlier deadline for materials to be returned to allow the school counselor time to complete and send all application materials directly to the school(s) to which the students are applying by the postmark deadline. See BHS deadlines below.

5. Costs for Governor’s Schools
The Governor’s Schools are funded by appropriations from the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee. All students attending Governor’s Schools will receive a scholarship which covers the cost of tuition, dorms, and meals; however, some Governor’s Schools have additional student activity fees to defray costs of activities or other non-academic expenses, which are not covered by the scholarship. Need-based financial support may be available in those instances.
The Governor’s School for the Arts has a program fee of $2,850 and an activity fee of $350. Accepted students may be awarded either a full program fee scholarship or a partial program fee scholarship or be permitted to attend with no scholarship. Refer to the Governor’s School for the Arts application on the MTSU web site or contact the school for additional information about the program costs and program fee scholarship opportunities.

7. Agricultural Sciences UT Martin: June 3-30, 2017
Students applying for the TN Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences must possess a demonstrated interest in agriculture and understand its importance to the culture and economy of Tennessee. Students may earn up to six hours of college credit.

8. Arts MTSU: June 4-29, 2017
Students applying for the TN Governor’s School for the Arts must meet the following criteria. Students must:
currently be in good academic standing in the 10th or 11th grade
not have previously attended any other Governor’s School
be recommended by their arts teacher (music, theatre, visual art, filmmaking or dance)
be highly motivated, have a demonstrated a high level of accomplishment in an arts discipline, and must be mature enough to participate effectively in a four-week residency program of intensive study.

Auditions will be held on January 14th and January 15th. You may choose one date.
Refer to application for specific audition requirements.
In case of inclement weather: Auditions will take place on January 22nd.
Students may earn up to 3 hours of college credit.

9. Computational Physics Austin Peay: June 4-23, 2017
The school for Computational Physics focuses on the application of computational methods to problems in all fields of science and engineering.
Requirements:
Students must have completed or be scheduled to complete a course in pre-calculus (including trigonometry) prior to the beginning of the school year and have an overall GPA of 3.2 or higher.

10. Emerging Technologies TN Tech University: June 3-July 1, 2017
The Governor’s School for Emerging Technologies is designed to stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through the study of current topics in emerging technologies that contribute to fields such as computing, electronics, energy, materials, medicine, robotics, and transportation.
Requirements
Applicants must have a 3.3 GPA or higher, must have successfully completed two years of high school level laboratory science and must have completed Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry.

11. Humanities UT Martin: June 4- July 1, 2017
The TN Governor’s School for Humanities will offer students the opportunity to earn six semester credits from UT Martin. While the exact schedule of courses has not been finalized, past offerings have traditionally focused on visual art, English, history, music, philosophy, and political science.
Requirements
Applicants should have excellent records in English classes and be able to demonstrate advanced experience in creative writing and literary analysis. Strong preference will be given to rising seniors.

12. Innovation & Entrepreneurship TN Tech University: May 27, -June 24, 2017
Attending the Governor’s School for Innovation & Entrepreneurship enhances student knowledge of entrepreneurship, business practices, information technology, leadership principles, and global innovation. Students will earn three hours of college credit.

13. International Studies U of M: June 3- July 1, 2017
The Governor’s School for International Studies provides intensive instruction and research experiences in the political, economic, cultural and social systems of the world. An in depth study of languages, customs, lifestyles, and cultures of various nationalities are also an integral part of the learning experience. Students may earn three credit hours of college work.

14. Prospective Teachers UT Chattanooga: May 30- June 24, 2017
The Governor’s School for Prospective Teachers will provide students with the following opportunities: “Achieve a realistic understanding of teaching; Understand themselves better as learners and future teachers; Critically evaluate effective teaching strategies; and plan, teach and critique short lessons.”

15. Sciences and Engineering UT Knox: June 4- July 1, 2017
The Governor’s School for the Sciences and Engineering provide students the opportunity for advanced study, laboratory experience, and research in a STEM field.
Requirements
Students must have completed at least one year of high school level laboratory science and one year of algebra.
Applicants must have a 3.5 GPA or higher.

16. Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage ETSU: June 4-30, 2017
The School for the Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage is a four-week program that explores the history and culture of Tennessee through integrated concepts of science, preservation, and interpretation.
Requirements
Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and should have strong preparation in history and science.

17. Scientific Models and Data Analysis ETSU: May 28-June 30, 2017
The School for Scientific Models and Data Analysis is a five-week program that will broaden a student’s appreciation and knowledge by exposing him or her to wide range of topics in the biological and statistical sciences, and to scientist who are active researchers in these areas.
Students will take Math 1530, Probability and Statistics, and will earn three college semester credit hours. Students will also take Biology 1110/111, Biology for Majors I and will earn four semester credits hours.
Requirements
Applicants should have a grade of 3.0 or higher in all high school mathematics classes taken, and they should have had Algebra II. Applicants should have had two semesters of high school science with a grade of 3.0 or higher in each course.
