An innovative Energy Audit and Measurement & Verification solution

Problem:
High Measurement & Verification (M&V) costs and a lack of transparency in energy savings calculations have inhibited growth in Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) and the ESCO market. Reliable software tools could help overcome these barriers by providing a scientific approach to the calculation of energy savings. Existing tools generally contain calculations and algorithms that are opaque and are not available for inspection, and the reliability of their energy savings figures is not known. This lack of transparency impedes the building of trust with the client.
IERC Solution:
The ExpertMV project intends to address the barriers to EPC by developing a reliable, transparent and cost-effective means of analysing energy data and of measuring and verifying energy savings. ExpertMV will develop an intuitive software tool that will provide:
A systematic approach to executing investment grade energy audits
A transparent, innovative and scientific means of M&V of savings in buildings and industry
IERC is developing the ExpertMV solution together with industry partners.
Innovation:
ExpertMV will incorporate new, innovative algorithms and advanced techniques to model energy consumption and measure energy savings.
ExpertMV will assess the level of uncertainty associated with savings calculations, enabling clients to make more informed decisions about energy efficiency investments.
ExpertMV will combine the energy auditing and M&V processes in one software platform, thereby improving the efficiency of the M&V process.
Project outcomes:
The project will deliver a software tool that will provide a systematic and reliable approach to executing energy audits and offer a more transparent means of measurement and verification of savings.
The project will assess the reliability of the ExpertMV software and of the algorithms used by comprehensively testing in selected sites in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe.
