Introduction Over a decade ago, in order to perform many of the basic operations of the micro- computer that we use today, a person usually had to be a trained computer specialist. Typewriters were used to create documents. Presentations were done verbally with the use of a flip board. Paper files were used instead of electronic. Basic Application Software

The primary learning objectives of this course are for students to learn the basic features of Microsoft Word Document and PowerPoint. Use of basic application software is widespread and is used in practically every discipline and occupation. They include the following: Word Processors Spreadsheets Database Management Systems Presentation Graphics Basic Application Software

4 Common Features The user interface is the part of the application
that allows the user to control and to interact with the program. The mouse controls the pointer on the screen, which is used to select icons from the window. An icon is a graphical elements that symbolizes objects on the window. A window contains a documents, program, or message. Common Features

5 What kind of application software is placed on your computer?
Microsoft Office 2010 The main features of Microsoft Office include the following: Ribbons include tabs that display command buttons. Tabs divide the ribbon into major activity areas which are organized into groups that contain related items. Galleries are alternatives in graphic format. Common Features

Word processor has many features that are used to for entering, editing, and formatting documents. Spelling Checker Fonts and Font Size Center Aligning Word Wrap Grammar Checker Character Effects Word Processor Features

10 Creating a Flyer Create a flyer using the basic features of
word processor. Indicate the following on your flyer: Name of the Activity or Event Date of the Activity or Event Time of the Activity or Event Location of the Activity or Event Contact Information Creating a Flyer

11 Create a Flyer Go to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/
and click on “flyer” located in the Templates Categories section in the upper left hand corner of the window. Next scroll through the template options, select a template, download and save it to your computer. Once you have the template saved to your computer, you can enter information into the various text boxes located throughout the template. Left click on your mouse near the text on your template as a way to locate the text boxes. Once you have created a flyer, print it off, and turn it in to me. Miigwetch. Lastly, go to and click on Sign In located in the upper right hand area of the window. Next, click on the “Create An Account” option and follow the steps one by one in order to establish your account. Create a Flyer
