15 CASE STUDY WILLIAM HILL PLC: Strategic communication support in high profile transaction Transaction Overview: A high profile transaction involving one of the world’s largest betting companies acquiring tomwaterhouse.com, one of the best known and fastest-growing online gaming brands in Australia. Objectives: Manage media interest and achieve well-informed and supportive coverage without encouraging new reporting on legacy issues relating to the tomwaterhouse.com brand. Position William Hill as a leading, international operator, with a clear strategy to expand into Australia. Ensure William Hill’s brand and reputation are protected and enhanced in Australia, the UK and globally. Challenges: Tom Waterhouse is a divisive figure in Australia, receiving heavy criticism (including previously from key people within William Hill and local subsidiary Sportingbet) for his aggressive promotion of betting odds. Public pressure on the Federal Government to tighten regulatory requirements around the promotion of gambling, especially live odds, during broadcasts of sport. Industry concern that one of the largest betting companies in the world is entering the Australian market, igniting concerns about foreign ownership and exacerbating public aversion to the betting industry. Our Approach: In-depth analysis of previous media coverage of tomwaterhouse.com and William Hill in Australia, which flowed into a communication strategy that focused on making the announcement a business story, rather than one that encouraged reporting on the legacy issues. Preparation and execution of a communication strategy that was consistent globally and aligned with William Hill’s longer term strategy. Preparation of a suite of communication documents including an in-depth Q&A to brief the CEO on the Australian media landscape and provide answers on all difficult topics. In-depth preparation of spokespeople and then a concentrated engagement with key media. Intense monitoring of coverage to quickly uncover issues and counter with appropriate messaging. Result: Positive coverage of transaction announcement and increased awareness of the William Hill brand and the company’s strategy in Australia. Minimal exploration of legacy issues, with William Hill’s reputation upheld. Successful completion of transaction, ongoing media interest in William Hill's future success in Australia.

16 CASE STUDY CEDAR WOODS PROPERTIES: Profile building to attract investment support Company Overview: Small cap Australian residential property developer with projects in VIC and WA over 25 years Objectives: Raise CWP’s profile in the media and position Managing Director, P. Sadleir as a thought leader in the sector Raise CWP’s profile in the investment community, particularly amongst potential investors and research analysts Maintain regular news-flow around, as well as outside of, key statutory reporting events Identify and ensure consistent communication of the Company’s key messages to its stakeholders Challenge: Small cap company with limited broker coverage Head office based in Perth making engagement, particularly with the East Coast media and investors, a challenge Relatively low awareness and understanding of the Company outside of CWP’s shareholder base Our Approach: Undertake a kick-off Investor Perception Study and then Semi-Annual Perception Survey to garner market feedback to identify strengths and vulnerabilities Conduct a corporate communication and investor relations strategy workshop to discuss key messages, strategy, objectives, stakeholders and potential issues and risks Prepare a corporate communication and investor relations strategy with a 12-mth timetable of proposed investor and media relations activities including: broker road-shows, speaking engagements, shareholder newsletters, media roundtables, management briefings with key institutions, site visits Draft, review and editing of communication materials and development of precedent documents and templates Proactive and targeted ongoing media engagement around and outside of statutory reporting events Result: Significant improvement in media coverage and media engagement Improved professionalism, consistency and clarity of message to CWP’s communication materials; marked improvement in investor relations noted by investors and analysts in follow-up perception survey Successful takeover defence from large industry player (Offer circa A$5.00 versus circa A$2.50 share price) Increased broker coverage of the stock and helped achieve an above A$6.00 share price and entry into the S&P Dow Jones ASX300 effective from 20 September 2013 (Share price A$7.30 on 4 Oct. 2013)

17 CASE STUDY BROOKFIELD AUSTRALIA: Asset-focused media management to support corporate brand building Objectives: Take control of information flow surrounding a significant CBD development project with high public interest, Brookfield Place Perth – one of the city’s largest development projects Develop a structured communication program during construction to deliver increased corporate brand awareness and strong market position (ahead of potential IPO of Australian-based office assets) Work with other marketing consultants (advertising, marketing, digital and ‘place activation’) to deliver a holistic media, marketing and engagement program once the precinct opened Challenge: High level of media interest in the construction process, leaks from within the project, market rumours and inaccuracies in the public domain Low recognition of the Brookfield brand and confusion over link with Brookfield Multiplex Once the development opened, ensure that its various public amenities were recognised and used by the people of Perth, and that their positioning was consistent with Brookfield’s corporate brand Our Approach: Strategic review and development of communication strategy centred on ‘Control and Leverage’ of all project news Direct engagement with key local media to provide full updates, briefings and site tours Ongoing media management of announcements, interviews, feature stories and broadcast stories Linking asset communication with wider corporate messaging to build the Brookfield brand Involved in the planning and implementation of launch events, digital strategy and advertising program, ensuring consistent messaging throughout Result: Consistent and accurate media coverage throughout the construction phase of the development Supported a successful leasing program, with the commercial tower 100% pre-leased Recognition of Brookfield as a major investor in Australia and WA in particular Coordinated events and digital campaigns which reinforced the public’s awareness of the property NOTE: MAGNUS maintains an ongoing corporate communication mandate with Brookfield
