Wellness Newsletter January 2017 Jump Start Looking to jump start your health in 2017? Learn from others example and be your best self this year. Meet Sandra - a fellow ThedaCare co-worker. Recently Sandra decided to make a few healthy changes in her life. Be inspired by Sandra’s “Jump Start” testimonial. What is your “why” for living well? As a working mom, I often focused on caring for everyone else and neglected my health. I now realize when I’m at my best, I can do more for those I love. What healthy changes have you made? I abandoned the “diet” mentality, which is just a pause on bad habits. It’s a work in progress. It’s truly about the journey. I’m in it forever. Health Coach Corner Meet Rachel Koehler! Hi, I’m Rachel, Health Coach at ThedaCare. I’m excited about the new year and the January Jump Start theme. I too have to “jump start” my wellness on occasion. Enjoy a few of my jump start tips: Drink a large glass of water before every meal. Eat a healthy breakfast. Eat your veggies. Yes, even the green ones  Do a self care power hour. Spend 20 minutes (each) doing something healthy for your mind, body, & soul. Sandra Slusarzyk and daughter at the Color Run I shifted my focus to eating real, whole food. Also, for 40+ years I never ate breakfast. Once I started eating breakfast every morning, I had more energy during the day. I’m also teaching my family to eat better. I’ve also recently added exercise into my life as a required to-do item. My goal is 20 minutes a day. My family and dogs join me for walks. It’s a great 20 minutes with my family. I just want to keep myself moving. What is your next goal? My life is in constant motion. I’ve vowed to be more aware of this and the resulting stress. I will make 2017 better by practicing mindfulness, and living in the moment. What advice can you give others? Commit to one day at a time. When you slip, start over. Use others for support; a “buddy”, a health coach, and/or a class. Life’s better when you can share the ride. “It doesn’t matter what you did or didn’t do in the past. What matters is what you do today and going forward.” ThedaCare’s Mission is to improve the health of the communities we serve.

Get Support & Earn Success To successfully accomplish your goals and improve your well-being, support is crucial. Share your goals and motives with those close to you, so they can encourage you on your journey. Set up an appointment with the nurse or health coach at your location. It’s a free service, and a great help! For extra accountability, sign up for ThedaCare wellness challenges and programs offered as well. ThedaCare’s Wellness Resources have helped many individuals, like Wendy, improve their health: Are YOU Ready to Jump Start YOUR Fitness? Would you like to be at a higher fitness level in three months? Do you have any idea how fit you are now compared to others your own age? Schedule an appointment with your health coach to talk about your goals, per- and post-fitness testing, and weekly core workouts. Meet Wendy Blezek Fleming your ThedaCare co-worker! Enjoy a few tips on how Wendy “jump starts” her health each day, and how a ThedaCare Health coach has helped her as well. “Fitness is definitely more of a marathon than a sprint. It’s important to get up each day and try to do something better or different, even if it’s really small and even if yesterday didn’t go so well. It all adds up in the end. I was reminded of this when I started working on my fitness assessment with Health Coach, Rachel and lost 2.25 inches in 3 months!” Thank you Wendy, for being a great example for all of us, keep up the great work!
