3 Mnemonic device for the elements of Art

4 Line – A mark with a length and a direction, a mark made by a moving point. 5 kinds of lines – horizontal, vertical, diagonal, zig-zag, and curved. Contour line – A line that defines the edges and surface ridges of an object.

5 Shape – an enclosed area or space
Free Form Shapes – Irregular and uneven shapes Geometric shapes – Precise shapes that can be described using mathematical formulas.

6 Space – The distance between lines and shapes. The illusion of depth
Positive space – Shapes and forms in two and three dimensional art. Negative space – Empty spaces surrounding shapes and forms

7 Color – An element of art and design derived from refracted light
Three Primary Colors Red Yellow Blue

8 Texture – The element of art that refers to how things feel, or look as if they might feel.

9 Value – The element of art that describes the lightness or darkness of an object.
Tints – A light value of a hue made by mixing the hue with white Shades – A dark value of a hue made by adding black

10 Form- An object having three dimensions (3D)
