3 ExxonMobil Global Structure
Upstream Downstream Chemicals ExxonMobil is a fully integrated O&G company and we are organised functionally to reflect different stages of O&G activity cycles. The first step of O&G activity is of course, to find the oil and gas – at ExxonMobil, our Exploration Company is organized to identify, pursue, capture, and evaluate all high-quality exploration opportunities on a global basis. We use highly sophisticated imaging software and geoscience techniques to identify potential deposits of oil and natural gas. Once we have decided to proceed with a particular oil field, we then develop production facilities and operate these facilities over a number of years. The oil we produce is transported to refineries around the world to be turned into the products that you and I use every day. Once it reaches a refinery, crude oil is processed using a wide range of different types of equipment to turn it into usable components and ultimately final products such as petrol, diesel, kerosene, jet fuel and lubricants. Once we have produced the refined products we typically move them by pipelines to terminals to be stored. From here we can deliver to our own stations and dealers. Large distributors and wholesalers also pick up product from terminals. In addition to our fuels business we are the largest suppliers of lube basestocks in the world and a leading marketer of finished lubricants and specialty products. Our Mobil 1 is the world's leading synthetic motor oil. ExxonMobil Chemical produces, stores, develops, transports, supplies and markets chemical products. We are the leading supplier of olefins, polyolefins and aromatics in the world. And although you may not know about these and other chemicals, you do know about the products that come from them: compact discs, polyester fibers, antifreeze, garden hoses, film and food containers, and many other things.
