As I mentioned earlier, the Upstream and Chemical companies are located in Houston. The Downstream companies are in Fairfax, VA. In addition, we have a global services company that provides various kinds of support for the corporation. Let’s take a closer look at our business lines. 6 ExxonMobil in Europe Present since the 19th century in Europe and active in more than 30 countries Europe = roughly a quarter of the company’s revenue and investment 24,000 staff (indirect jobs typically nine fold) Largest oil and gas producer in Europe 10 % of Europe's oil 15 % of Europe’s natural gas 9,000 Esso stations serve over 2,2 millions fuel customers and 1,6 million non-fuel customers per day Each day we sell 1,300 million m3 of gas or one tenth of European consumption From our roots in Europe in the 19th Century, we are currently Europe’s largest oil and natural gas producer, accounting for 10 percent of the continent’s oil and 15 percent of its gas. There are now 9,000 Esso-branded service stations, serving fuel and non-fuel products to about 4 million European customers a day. We employ 24,000 people directly - and many thousands more indirectly. To put it simply, Europe is a key area for us, representing about one quarter of our global revenue and investment. Directly relevant to today’s discussion, though, is our global expertise in research and development, in which we lead our industry. In Europe, 1,900 scientists and engineers are working for ExxonMobil. On a worldwide basis, we employ 20,000 scientists and engineers and almost 2000 PhDs. Every year, we spend around $600 million on energy-related research. Part of which, of course, is directed at identifying and developing the fuels and related technologies of tomorrow.
