1 How to Organize the 6th Grade BINDER

2 Every student should have one binder, filled with supplies, that he/she takes to all his/her classes

3 Some subjects may require a specific spiral notebook, composition book, etc. for that particular class, along with the binder.

4 Inside the binder, items should be organized in a particular way.

5 First, students need a supply pouch of some sort, built-in or snapped in the 3 rings.

6 The following items belong in the supply pouch:
2 blue or black pens 2 pencils 1 red pen 2 yellow or green highlighters 1 thin black Sharpie® 1 white out pen 1 glue stick 1 sheet of hole protectors 1 calculator

7 Second, a ruler should be snapped into the 3 rings.

8 Next, the agenda book should be snapped into the 3 rings in the front of the binder whenever possible.

9 The agenda book should be filled out with the homework for every core subject class every day. In the case of no homework, students should write in the class work for that day.

10 After the agenda book, SIX (6) heavy duty dividers should be snapped into the rings of the binder.

11 These dividers should be labeled in the order of the student’s classes with the name of the class. (For instance, the top or first divider should be labels LA 6 if a student has period 1 language arts class.)

12 Also, the dividers should be organized so the tabs are in descending order when viewed on the right side of the binder.

13 Handouts, notes, passed-back work, etc
Handouts, notes, passed-back work, etc. from a particular class should be stored BEHIND that class dividers. Papers should be snapped into 3 rings of the binder.

14 Accordion files that are built into binders are off limits for use in the 6th grade binder. (Papers get lost and crumpled when not snapped into the rings.)

15 After the dividers, students should keep an ample supply of lined notebook paper for completing work in all classes. REFILL this paper regularly.

16 In the back of the binder, students should also keep a handful (around 20) plastic sheet protectors.

17 Along with carrying this supply- filled binder to every class, every day, students should bring their independent reading book with them to all classes. When students finish a task early, they can read.
