2 After your Library/Information Literacy induction you should be able to:
Access the library database – search by author, title and keyword for books and journals; Be aware of the Universal Decimal Classification system; Understand the difference Sources of Information; Know which material is located where in the library; Know how to borrow, renew, return and reserve library materials; Understand and define the concepts of ‘information skills’ and 'information literacy‘, including “Plagiarism” and “Harvard Referencing” Understand Library regulations regarding the use of facilities and services;

7 Organization of Knowledge in the Library
Library materials are classified and organized according to the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) According to the UDC, the universe of knowledge is divided into 10 main classes:-

8 Books Most of the books mentioned in the syllabuses are generally available A ratio of 1:5 is maintained from the main recommended text book There are four categories of books Green -Tagged Books Yellow -Tagged Books Red -Tagged Books (Reference Only) Blue -Tagged Books (Academic Staff Only)

9 Green & Yellow -Tagged Books
These books can be borrowed out of the library Each member may borrow up to 2 books (1 book to begin with) Lending periods - Green Tagged books for 1 week - Yellow Tagged books for 3 days

10 Red-Tagged Books Red-tagged books are for reference only.
Why are these books red-tagged? -To keep as a master copy in the library for Reference -They are extremely difficult to source (out of print, etc.), So multiple copies are not available

11 CDs CDs that come as a supplement to books are available in the Library are available for borrowing. Loan period - 1 day Computers available in the library could be used for study purposes only WCMT Library and Resource Centre is covered by Wifi and you all can use your laptop computers in side the library.

What's New? Library AOLS has many features to make it easier and more convenient for you to manage your library loans online! New Titles of the Month View new acquisitions for the month! You may check the availability of them Enhanced Search Facility You can perform a keyword search on the Title, Author, Subject, Item Code and ISBN of the book. Manage Your Loans Online (Planned) WCMT Library AOLS offers easy ways for you to manage your library account without visiting the library! Viewing of outstanding loans and renewals could be done online. Make a Library Reservation Perhaps you need to borrow a book but no available copies in the library. you may make a reservation online. Reservations are made on first-come-first-serve basis. Check Your Outstanding Library Fines

Computers in the library could be used for Online Access (e-Library Function) WiFi connectivity Final year student thesis (plans to build up such collections) Selective Dissemination of Information – SDI Bulletin “News Updates” and “e-library newsletter” Facilities to Access E-resources through Internet

15 Entering the Library Wearing & displaying the Student ID is a mandatory requirement when entering the library Your all need to strictly adhered to “Library Rules and Regulations” stipulated in the Library Policy Document. You are permitted to bring only loose sheets and books borrowed into the library. You will not be permitted to bring into the library all personal belongings, such as cases, umbrellas, caps, flat files , file covers, note pads, exercise books and CR books etc. Books not belonging to the library, also shall not be permitted. Set your HAND PHONE to SILENT MODE

16 Borrowing Books Check the condition of the book/s
Report damages, scribbling etc This will be taken note of Present the book at the Library Counter Before leaving the library please check; whether the “Due Date” is stamped in RED and counter signed by a library staff member

17 Returning Books A book must be returned on or before the “Due Date”
On returning make sure that the “Returned Date” is stamped in BLACK.

18 Overdue Books The fines are as follows on overdue books.
Green/Yellow/Blue/Red Tagged Books - Rs. 100 per day (Up to 30 days – including holidays) Note: All accounts will be suspended after 30 days(including holidays), and the library deposit will be forfeited.

19 Renewals Renewals could be done once only provided there are no other reservations. The library doesn't encourage renewals at the counter. This could be done using online facilities (Planned). If you encounter any problems while trying to renew online, you may have to inform the library staff immediately and the book should be brought to the library.

20 Reservations A reservation is allowed only if the book is not available in the library. Reservations could be done using online facilities (future plans). On availability, it will be communicated to the member by and will be reserved for 3 days only.

21 Looking after the Books
When borrowing, check for any defacements or damages & if there are any inform the Staff on Duty Take good care of the book. Remember, there are other users. If the book is found damaged when you return it, you may be asked to pay for its repair/replacement.

22 Loss of Books If you lose a book, inform the librarian IMMEDIATELY!
Otherwise, you will continue to incur fines. You will be informed of the replacement cost.

23 Termination of Library’s Membership Account
If you want to terminate your account, make sure that you:- Get the Library Membership Termination form from the library Fill up the form and bring it to the library together with your ID No termination process is allowed to be done on behalf of your friends unless there is a letter of authorization.

24 Feedback - Books If one feels that a book is important for relevant studies, & is not available in the library one could fill up a “Book Requisition Form” & hand it over to the librarian. All efforts will be made to acquire the book

25 Feedback - Service and Environment
For Improved services, E.g.: Librarians are not helpful Librarians are rude Environment is not conducive Anything is broken/damaged Please provide feedback! Fill up a Feedback Form, or inform the Administrative staff

28 Simple, Common-Sense Hints
Please switch off all mobile phones/pagers while in the library. Please do NOT reserve seating locations for yourself. Please return the chairs to their original location.

Please observe silence in the Library. Please observe all Guidelines for Professional Conduct applicable to WCMT students while in the Library and the Study area. Above all, make good use of the Library and Resource Centre !
