2 Packet Your packet is due the DAY OF THE UNIT TEST
You will be told when the test date is at least FIVE DAYS in advance No need to ask “When is the packet due?”- you will have plenty of warning

3 How is my packet graded? Your packet will receive several grades in the gradebook: The packet as a whole will be given a grade for completion Some pages will be given an individual grade The vocabulary section of the packet will be given a grade

4 How is my vocabulary graded?
1 point per vocabulary term for writing the correct definition FROM THE BOOK 1 point per sentence Sentence must meet the following criteria: Vocabulary term is used correctly Complete sentence Fourth grade level writing The sentence does not just define the term; it is a creative sentence that shows an understanding of the term 1 point per drawing Drawing must be done neatly, colored neatly, and accurately represent the term

How do I know if my vocabulary is done at a fourth grade level? How can I make sure I will get full credit on my vocabulary?

6 Compass rose definition
The definition you provide must come directly from the book. You do NOT make up or reword the definition. Compass rose definition A symbol on a map that shows directions north, south, east and west.

7 The sentence you write cannot redefine the word.
Poor sentence (Compass rose) The compass rose showed the directions north, south, east, and west on the map. Why does this sentence not work? When looking at the map of Colorado, I used the compass rose to figure out that Colorado Springs was south of Denver. Why does this sentence work? Demonstrates an understanding of the word Shows that the student knows where a compass rose can be found (on a map) Shows that the student knows what a compass rose does (shows direction) Takes things a step further by indicating an understanding of how to use a compass rose The student used the compass rose on a map to figure out where cities were located Fourth grade level sentence Fourth grade level effort

I used the compass rose on the globe to determine that the United States is north of the equator. Why does this sentence work? Demonstrates an understanding of the word Shows that the student knows where a compass rose can be found (on a globe) Shows that the student knows what a compass rose does (shows direction) Takes things a step further by indicating an understanding of how to use a compass rose The student used the compass rose on a map to figure out where the United States and equator were located Fourth grade level sentence Fourth grade level effort
