2 We have learned that the globe is a model of the earth
We have learned that the globe is a model of the earth. There are some important new words that will help us use the globe more successfully.

3 Hemisphere A half of the earth. There is a northern hemisphere, a southern hemisphere, an eastern hemisphere, and a western hemisphere.

4 Poles Two locations on the globe. They are on opposite ends of the globe. There is a North Pole and a South Pole. This is where the earth rotates from.

5 Equator An imaginary line drawn half way between the North Pole to the South Pole. It divides the earth into the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere.

6 Latitude Imaginary lines that cut across the globe from EAST to WEST. The equator is a line of latitude.

7 Longitude Imaginary lines that cut across the globe from NORTH to SOUTH.
