2 How might ‘D-Day’ be significant?
This is the letter sent by Dwight D Eisenhower, the US General who was Supreme Allied Commander, and later 34th president in It was sent to all Allied military personnel Read through and discuss with your partner: Why did Eisenhower send the letter? What does he say to try to help the invasion?

7 Homework, due… You are a reporter who has travelled around the beaches of Normandy on D-Day +1 (the day after) You must write an article for you newspaper about the event You must have: An introductory paragraph (what was D-Day) What you can see on the beaches now Interviews with American and British soldiers Interview with a general about what happens next Explain why it was a significant part of WW2 You may choose to use either the blank article, or the one with starter sentences

D-Day was, and remains, the largest amphibious (water) assault in history, involving 156,000 Allied and 50,000 German troops. There were 10,000 Allied casualties and 4,000 – 9,000 German.
