2 Context Wales has a devolved planning system
New Planning (Wales) Act 2015 with secondary legislation i.e. DNS ‘Health in All Policies’ (HiAP) focus of Welsh Government Wellbeing of the Future Generations (Wales) Act – focus on Sustainable Development principle and cross sector working Public Health placed in 7 Local Health Boards and Public Health Wales (PHW) NHS Trust Builds on WHIASU and HIA(P) work of the Unit and partners Evolve and move on WHIASU and EPHS work with planning and planners in WG. WFGA – 7 goals. HIAP. Shared language and framework to work towards

3 Document aims introduce planners to the public health system and public health professionals to the planning system and set out where key legislative and policy requirements overlap; highlight opportunities at key stages within the two systems where greater integrated working between planners and public health professionals can help to deliver health, well-being and sustainability outcomes; highlight opportunities to promote health and wellbeing; and signpost useful resources, information and examples of good practice.

How can health evidence best inform the process? Which stages of the Local Development Plan process can public health teams engage in? How can the annual monitoring report help in tracking health progress? Can HIAS inform the Local Development Plan? Section 3 How are the integrated medium-term plans relevant to planners and how could planners be involved in the plan process? Could integrated medium-term plans, well-being plans and statements or other health-based strategies be material in the planning process? How can the Director of Public Health’s annual report recognise planning’s contribution to bringing about healthier environments and a healthier population? Engaging with Local Health Boards to consider healthcare infrastructure needs during the planning process Section 4: How does the local well-being plan relate to the Local Development Plan? What local well-being objectives could be developed? What kind of planning evidence can feed into the well-being assessment?

11 Outcomes so Far... Launched at PHW/WG Event in November 2016 – 150 attendees. Very positive response Welsh Government – PHW involved in preparing for the new EU EIA Directive transposition; new Planning Policy Wales LA Planning Department – utilising the document i.e. City of Swansea County Council; Cardiff County Council Local PH Teams – Local relationships strengthened PHW – internal harmonisation of planning related consultation responses WG keen to continue relationship and working together Open space SPG with DCC Bob and Wrexham LPHT
