1 Sudan

2 Sudan is the largest country in Africa.

3 There are 9 countries bordering Sudan.

4 Less than 7% of the country is able to be farmed or suitable for livestock, which causes conflict over scarce resources.

5 The capital is Khartoum, which has 3 million people living in it.

6 It became part of the British empire in 1898

11 In January of 2011, Southern Sudan voted with a 98% majority to become a separate country. On July 9, 2011, they will become the world’s newest country. However, the North may not let them go quietly…
