Nurses health education Patients/clients in hospital & community settings provide basic health education School teachers and school social workers

7 Programme Aims integrate knowledge, theory and practice in providing health education in various train-the-trainer programmes in school and healthcare settings for various kinds of clients -- schoolchildren, teenagers, adults and patients in the community; implement evidence-based practice in health education; diagnose health problems, plan health education strategies, convey implementation of the plan to patients, motivate them to comply, and evaluate outcomes; evaluate contemporary health issues in healthcare; and perceive and adapt to changes in the healthcare field, in society, and in their clients. They should be able to think creatively.

15 Curriculum and Structure
Additional Compulsory Courses (bridging courses) Prospective and commencing students may be required to take three preparatory Additional Compulsory Courses in order to assist them in meeting pre- requisites for the BHE programme entry.

Additional Compulsory Courses (9 cps): Students who are required to take the ACC will have to complete a total of 69 cps in order to fulfill the graduation requirement of the program. Health Service in Hong Kong Human Biology HealthCare Ethics

17 Credit transfer Credit transfer may be granted to students in recognition of their prior learning experiences. Students should submit application for credit transfer after they have completed their programme registration.

18 Admissions Requirements
To be eligible for admission, applicants should: have obtained a Higher Diploma in health/health-related disciplines or equivalent*; or be serving teachers in kindergartens, primary, secondary or special schools; or registered social workers; or have obtained a Certificate in Education or Certificate of the Teachers of Children with Special Educational Needs, degree or post-graduate diploma in education, or degree or diploma in social work or equivalent; and be fluent in both written and spoken English. * For applicants of Associate Degree in health or health-related studies, they are required to complete the Additional Compulsory Courses (ACC) before graduation.

19 Academic Recognition Award a Bachelor of Health Education (Hons) degree Will NOT enable a graduate to become a practicing nurse in Hong Kong A wide range of employment opportunities, and will be able to compete for high-level positions Qualify for work as health promotion officers in elderly centers, as community health educators, as wellness coordinators in outpatient departments/clinics, etc Opportunity to do postgraduate study at the University through a variety of Master’s programmes. The University also offers Doctor of Education programme and PhD programme for doctoral study in the relevant specialty.
