Supporting the Incredible Years® Trained Workforce – the Flintshire Model Aim of the presentation: The importance of Supervision, Consultation and Peer Support Scope Delivery Model and Outcomes The Future

3 The importance of Supervision, Consultation and Peer Support

4 Quality Training, Supervision, Ongoing Monitoring, and Agency Support: Key Ingredients to Implementing The Incredible Years Programs with Fidelity “In order to obtain similar results to those published by the developer of a program, attention must be given to supervising the quality of the implementation of that program. It is important to assure that the program is delivered with the highest degree of fidelity possible. Fidelity means that the program is delivered in its entirety, using all the components and therapeutic processes recommended by the developer.”

5 Positive Outcomes Ongoing Supervision & Feedback Regular peer & mentor support High program fidelity Client satisfaction High attendance/low drop out ↓Behavior problems Positive parenting & relationships - Carolyn Webster-Stratton (2004)

6 Guidance on Supervision
“ As well as parenting programme develop-led supervision, practitioners should also be provided with regular supervision from their manager to support their role. This can help managers make an assessment of practitioners’ knowledge and understanding and promote reflective practice and continual professional development.” - Parenting in Wales: Guidance on engagement and support

7 The value of Supervision
“We know that effective work with parents and families only flourishes when the workers undertaking that complex and often difficult work are looked after well, and that supervision is one of the best ways of achieving this.” “An expert can check that the worker’s practice remains ‘true’ to the programme’s manual to ensure maximum effectiveness” - Honor Rhodes OBE, Trustee of the Early Intervention Foundation
