1 Lab. Integration and preperation
3Shape TRIOS® Lab. Integration and preperation 3Shape TRIOS® 2014

2 1:2 New to CAD/CAM 3Shape TRIOS New to CAD/CAM? – Arrange Training
Before moving from ‘analog’ to digital, you will need training to ensure that you produce restorations with optimal fit and patient safety. The initial CAD/CAM training for dental technicians will be provided by the distributor. Training will often be organized in the following modules: Dental System Basic Covering e.g. system basics, order handling, materials, design, model building and Inboxes for TRIOS and Manufacturing Dental System Advanced Extends the number of indications/restoration types your will be able to design and manufacture Dental System Customized On demand courses with in-depth focus on specific areas TRIOS Ready An optional topic for lab technicians who would like the benefits of understanding the entire TRIOS workflow and process from clinic to lab., before receiving first scan. 3Shape CAMbridge (optional) Typically a one day session that includes both training on the basic CAM system, production planning, blank management etc. Also includes integration and configuration of your chosen milling machine. TIP: We encourage you to join the many webinars offered by 3Shape… and don’t miss our demo videos on YouTube 3Shape TRIOS® 2014

3 Thank you for choosing 3Shape We are committed to your success!
3Shape TRIOS New to CAD/CAM 1:2 Get started If you, as a minimum, completed the Dental System Basic, you will have acquired the basic skills required to perform the steps mentioned for Experienced Users in the first slides. We encourage you to proceed slowly - and take one step at the time - become comfortable with the process. This will help ensure that you get the most out of your investment as soon as possible, and quickly enjoy high quality results with optimal fits. We welcome you to the wonders of digital dentistry. Please do not hesitate to contact your reseller for advice, assistance and additional training. Thank you for choosing 3Shape We are committed to your success! 3Shape TRIOS® 2014

4 1:5 Experienced CAD/CAM Lab. 3Shape TRIOS Setting the standard…
If the lab already has an existing CAD/CAM system (is an experienced user), and is replacing or extending this with a 3Shape solution, then the following steps are recommended before receiving TRIOS digital impressions scans from clinics. Setting the standard… Make sure that your desktop scanner, Dental Designer™, materials and milling are all configured correctly: Scan an existing gypsum model (for which you know your existing software can produce a crown that fits), scan it with 3Shape desktop scanner Design the crown/bridge and mill it in your normal way Check the fit on the gypsum model. If it is not a good fit, check the following: Drill compensation should be correct according to the smallest tool used in your mill +0.1mm. E.g. if using 1.0mm tool for finishing, set drill compensation radius in 3Shape Dental System to 1.0/2+0.1 = 0.6mm Check that cement space parameters are set correctly. Normally “Cement Gab” = 0.03mm, and “Extra Cement Gab” = 0.07mm should be fine. If the fit is still not acceptable, contact your 3Shape reseller for assistance. 3Shape TRIOS® 2014

5 2:5 Experienced CAD/CAM Lab. 3Shape TRIOS IOS Test – TRIOS Scan
In this step, you will again design and mill, but this time we will replace the desktop scan with a digital impression (scan) from a TRIOS system (your own, or a customer’s). We will again scan a gypsum model and not wait with a real patient, just yet… Scan the same gypsum model as used from previous slidwith a 3Shape TRIOS Send the order from TRIOS to your Dental Manager™ using 3Shape Communicate™ Design a crown/bridge with 3Shape Dental Designer™ (hence no model yet, we use the gypsum) Mill the crown/bridge (using your normal manufacturing process) Check the fit of the resulting crown/bridge on your gypsum model If not a good fit, follow these steps: Make sure that the settings for Drill compensation and Cement space are the same as those used successfully from previous slide. If the fit is still not acceptable, contact your 3Shape reseller for assistance 3Shape TRIOS® 2014

Introducing 3D printed models Scan the same gypsum model with 3Shape TRIOS Send the order from TRIOS to your Dental Manager™ using 3Shape Communicate™ Design and section a digital model using 3Shape Model Builder™ Design a crown/bridge using 3Shape Dental Designer™ Mill a crown/bridge in the normal manner Print the digital model on a 3D printer, e.g. Projet3500 (please contact your 3Shape reseller for an advise about printing service centres and printer models etc) Check the crown/bridge fit on the printed model and the gypsum model 3Shape TRIOS® 2014

Repeat previous slide… however instead of single unit, create a 3 unit bridge case. Tips & Tricks If the fit is perfect on the gypsum model, but not on the printed model, then the problem is either related to the Model Builder™ step or the 3D printing step. In this is the case: Ensure you use the latest material file (dme) from the Model printing service Use 3Shape Convince™, Geomagic or another software package to compare the STL data file with the printed result. If the STL file matches the printed model then the problem is most likely related to Model Builder™ - possibly a Model Builder™ setting that needs to be changed. Please contact your 3Shape reseller for assistance. If the STL does not match the printed model (+/- 50 um) then the problem is most likely related to the 3D printer. Make sure the printer is calibrated or that you have designed models with support bars, etc. Contact your printer vendor (3D system reseller in this example) for assistance. If you get stuck at this point, don’t hesitate to contact your 3Shape reseller. 3Shape TRIOS® 2014

8 5:5 Experienced CAD/CAM Lab. 3Shape TRIOS
Testing with a scan from a real patient Important Note: Please do not attempt this step before you have completed the other steps successfully Scan a real patient’s single molar using 3Shape TRIOS Send the order from TRIOS to your Dental Manager™ using 3Shape Communicate™ Section and design a virtual model in 3Shape Model Builder™ Design a single molar crown in 3Shape Dental Designer™ Mill the crown in your normal manner and print the model using your 3D preferred printing service. Check the crown’s fit on the model and then on the patient. If the crown does not fit the printed model, make sure that your design of contact point, occlusion and articulation has been correct. If it still does not fit optimally, return to Step Three, to control if it still works from a gypsum scan. If the crown fits the model, but not the patient, please make sure that no major changes were performed to the crown after milling, in order to make it fit the printed model. When you have a successful fit with a single molar crown, repeat the test for a 3 unit bridge case. Don’t hesitate to contact your 3Shape reseller for assistance with any of the steps above. OPTIONAL: Repeat as above for single unit implant case, using e.g. ELOS or Avinent scan abutments. 3Shape TRIOS® 2014
