2 Graduation Requirements
SUBJECT CREDITS IB Diploma REQUIRED COURSES / NOTES English 4 1 credit of 9th Lit 1 credit of American Literature or IB Lang & Lit 1 Math Math Support may count towards graduation Science 1 credit of Physical Science or Physics 1 credit of Biology 1 credit of Chemistry or Environmental Science Social Studies 3 1 credit of World History 1 credit of U.S. History ½ credit Economics ½ credit of American Government CTAE, Foreign Language, or Fine Arts This area can be a combination Students must have 2 years of the same Foreign Language if they plan to attend a 4 year university Health / Personal Fitness ½ unit each This can be exempted with 3 credits of ROTC 2 years Marching Band/ 2 years Varsity Sports Electives 6 Examples – PE, Journalism, Sociology, etc. Total 23 27

4 Required Testing for Core
All students must take EOC/Milestone Tests which = 20% of grade in the following courses: Algebra US History Geometry Economics Physical Science 9th Grade Lit Biology American Lit

5 MCS Online Graduation Requirement
All first time 9th graders entering Marietta High School after the Fall of 2012 must take at least one semester (½ credit) of a course delivered in an online platform. Courses can be taken independently during non-school hours or during school hours on campus. Currently Health fulfills this requirement Do you still want this slide?

6 Registration Starting March 7, teachers will begin making course recommendations using ASPEN. Students and parents can monitor the recommendations. Beginning March 14th – Counselors begin meeting with students through their English classes to complete registration. COUNSELORS WILL NOT SPEND TIME CHOOSING FOR YOU Be prepared. Complete the Registration Worksheet and be prepared to tell counselors you elective choice.

7 SAT/ACT Test Dates & Registration
NEW COURSE for SAT /ACT Prep! Designed specifically by instructors who are trained to help students increase test scores! Proven results (of increased scores) with other districts around the state and nationally Talk to your counselor about registering for this course beginning March 14th! More information is coming about this exciting opportunity!

15 Consider Move On When Ready (Dual Enrollment)
Students earn high school AND college credit while enrolled in high school Minimal cost (or in some cases – free!) Must meet participating schools’ admissions requirements (age, test scores, GPA, etc.) Must earn qualifying scores on either SAT/ACT or Accuplacer test Be aware of deadlines – KSU is in mid-January, Chat Tech is in May, etc. For more information, contact Dr. Brown or Mr. Meade

16 HOPE SCHOLARSHIP Students who achieve a 3.0 GPA in high school core subjects and maintain that GPA throughout college will receive HOPE Scholarship Students in the Class of 2017 and beyond must receive at least four credits in courses from the following HOPE Rigor Courses Advanced math (e.g., Advanced Algebra/ Algebra 2) Advanced science (e.g., Chemistry, Physics) Advanced foreign language (e.g., Spanish/French II) AP/IB courses in core subjects Courses taken at a unit of the University System of Georgia in core subjects (e.g., Dual Enrollment courses) Students who enter college with a 3.7 GPA and a 1200 SAT score (600 Critical Reading and 600 Math) or 26 Composite on ACT will receive 100 percent of tuition through the Zell Miller Scholarship program as long as they maintain a 3.3 GPA in college. Test requirements for the SAT & ACT must be in single administration. Going to college? Think SAT/ACT, GPA, & course rigor Research & visit some colleges Think costs – do some research Going to the military? Take the ASVAB Have you spoken to any recruiter? Going into the workforce? Take the Accuplacer Consider a Career Pathway (CTAE) Move On When Ready is an option Regardless of college, military, or workforce Begin community service Think about internships
