1 Career Stories Playbook 2016
genKP, Kaiser Permanente 2014 – Confidential Internal Use Only

2 Career Stories Overview
Career Stories (CS) is a way for Kaiser Permanente employees and GenKP members to get the know leaders in the organization and how they navigated their career path. In an intimate setting, our selected leader will sit down with a CS Lead for an interactive live interview streamed out to members nationally. All members are encouraged to live tweet questions and their thoughts on what they learned from the networking event! Raised on positivity and constant feedback by Baby Boomer parents. Experienced the 2008 recession, which dampened immediate job prospects. Daily computer and Internet use since the mid 1990’s. @Gen_KP #GenKPcs 11-13 14-33 34-49 50-68 69-89

13 Tips on Interviewing Write your introduction for the interviewee
Make the introduction short and sweet. Try to include an interesting fact about your interviewee Arrive early Start with the most interesting question Treat it as a conversation Be playful, smile Use callbacks To help engage the audience, use “callbacks” by bringing up something that has been said during the interview. Listen to anything that happens spontaneously in the space that causes a laugh and seek clever ways to reference it again. Callbacks make it fun for the audience. Allow for silences, don’t interrupt Use open-ended questions Wrap up the interview nicely Let the audience know the program is coming to an end by saying “We’re almost out of time. There are a few key things to wrap up.” Then, summarize the discussion and offer opportunities for discussion beyond the session.

14 Interiew Q&A Pool of Questions:
What did you want to be when you grew up, as a child? What was your first position at KP? What were your successive moves after that? Why? How? Did you go to college? Where? What is something about you and/or your career path that not many people know? Describe one of your best/worst experiences here. What is a typical day like for someone in your position? What is the biggest challenge you have personally faced in this organization? If you could go back in time and give yourself a piece of advice that would influence your role at KP, what would that be? We all have a bucket list, what’s something on yours? If you could pick any role at KP- regardless of education/licensure, what would you be? If every millennial who worked at KP gave you their undivided attention for 5 minutes. What would you tell them? What drives you? What have you learned about yourself over the years? What skills did you need to obtain to get where you are? What skills set do you wish you had prior starting your career? How do you spend your free time? Where do you see opportunities at KP in the next few years?  How about opportunities in the industry? How is technology impacting your role/service area? Could you describe your average workday and your key job responsibilities? What resources help you keep up with this industry? In what ways has this position affected your life outside of work? What is the best advice you received that you would like to pass on to others? Who is your biggest idol? Interiew Q&A
