1 Primary sector The primary sector consist of economic activities( crop agriculture, livestock farming forestry and fishing) that obtain resources of nature. Agricultural space is created when people modify natural landscapes. Agrcultural space can be influenced by physical and human factors

2 Climate Soil Physical factors Relief Vegetation

3 Physical factors 1 Climate:
Temperature must be warm and rainfall apropiate to grow the crops. Some adverse phenomenon such as frost, hailstones or drought can damage the crops. Relief: The sunny side of a mountain, the orientation to the hot winds, plains and low lands offer better conditions for crops. High mountains, their shidy side and very steep slopes are bad for the cultivation.

4 Physical factors 2 Soil: A deep soil with lot of nutrients like humus, is better to grow plants Vegetation: provides the soil with humus, so the more vegetation an area has, the more fertile the soil will be

5 Human factors Population growth Technical conditions
Farm size and land ownership

6 Population growth: can increase the presure into the land and nature
Population growth: can increase the presure into the land and nature. When there aren't enough people to work, cultivated lands could be abandoned. Developed countries produce much more crops than poor countries, because they use advanced technology such as machinery, fertilisers or pesticides. However the environmental cost is higher. Land ownership can be different wether the land own to one person or more. Some people don't have any land and work as day labourers or rent a piece of land to cultivate.

7 Human factors 2 Structure of agricultural space
According to the size of the properties the plots can be: Smallholdings Large states. Bocage Openfield Small fields separated by Fields are open and can be distinguished by hedges, trees or stones the crops or the way they are used. According to boundaries:

8 Farming systems 1 Depending on the use of the water:
Irrigated: use irrigate systems mainly in fruit trees, cotton, vegetables... Rain-fed agriculture: crops only receive rainwater. Wheat or vineyards. Depending on the utiliaation of the soil: Intensive agricultunre:. Obtain maximum yield in a little space. Market garden (greenhouses) in Almería or orchards in Murcia and Valencia are very good examples.

9 Farming systems 2 Depending on the utiliasation of the soil 2:
Extensive agriculture: use a lot of agricultural space. Cereals, plantation crops such as suggar cane or coffee. Depending on the variety of species Mixed cropping:the cultivation of several species in an agricultural area Monoculture cultivate only one species in the same plot

11 Livestock farming Types of livestock farming: According to
Cattle: cows, oxen, bulls Sheep, horses, rabbits, pigs, goats Poultry: chicken, dcuks, turkeys... Types of livestock farming: According to Capital investment Extensive livestock farming, specially cattle and sheep which graze on large pastures in the open air. Intensive livestock farming Poultry ang pigs are growing up in closed spaces.

12 Livestock farming 2 Types of livestock farming 2 According to
Transhumance: herders move their from summer to winter pastures According to mobility of livestock: Nomadic herding: herders and their families are constantly moving searching for good pasture Sedentary livestock: Animals don't have to Move because they are feeding by farmers

13 Food and feeding methods
Grazing livestock: animals grow free range eating grass. Semi-cofined livestock: during spring and summer they graze freely. In winter they eat feed. Confined livestock: Animals are kept in sheds or corrals

14 Fishing Type Place Duration Boats Catch Coastal fishing Near the coast
One or sevaral days small Sardines, squids, anchovies, clams, prawns, etc. Off-shore fishing and deep-sea fishing Deep sea Several weeks or months Large boats, freezer factory ships Cod, swordfish, tuna, hake, etc.

15 Fishing 2 Coastal fishing: Traditional fishing Off-shore fishing
and deep sea fishing: Factory ship Acquaculture: fish farm
