2.  Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment is a program designed to provide high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school by taking University courses normally not offered at the high school.  UNM, CNM, CEC, and Running Start offer a FREE Dual Credit classes for all students attending public, private, and charter schools. Students must pay for any associated course fees. CNM waives fees for on-line courses. UNM charges students for on- line fees.  UNM’s admission to Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment is in Non- Degree status and is not considered “Early Admission” to the University. Students desiring to continue in degree status after high school graduation must fulfill the admission requirements described in the current UNM Catalog.

3.  All Junior, and Senior students attending CIS must take Dual Enrollment Courses in order to fulfill NM graduation requirements.  Students must show that they have met course prerequisites by submitting SAT scores or by taking the CNM Accuplacer Assessment to test for college-level course placement.  10th grade students are considered eligible for Dual Enrollment classes, second semester only or during the summer, only if they meet Academic/CIS eligibility requirements:  Must have no less than a 3.0 GPA first semester of Sophomore year.  Must require no make-up recovery classes.  OR have a recommendation from the principal.

4.  Students must meet course prerequisite requirements before enrolling in classes.  Elective credits for dual enrollment courses. 1 whole credit for each class taken and passed.  Students may enroll in up to two dual credit courses per semester. (We require one class)  Students may not drop a dual credit course without permission from the school counselor.  It is the students responsibility to notify us if they are not passing a class. (If done in time, students can withdraw from the course before final grades are submitted.)  Students must attend class 90% of the time, failure to do so may result in the professor dropping them from class.  Students need to make sure they are capable of passing college class work as it could determine if they graduate high school or not.  All college grades are included on their permanent college transcripts and GPA’s.

5. CNM, CEC, and RUNNING START Step #1: Apply and Get a CNM ID Number Students will apply online and fill out the application worksheet. (Social Security Number required) Step #2: Submit the Required Signature Page Must be turned in five business days after completing the admission. Step #3: Complete the CNM Online Orientation at www.cnm.edu/nso. Step #4: Student will create a myCNM Student Account. Step #5:Take the Accuplacer test at CIS. * The exam is computer based and free * Results are given upon completion of the exam * Scores are good for five years * The exam is given at CIS. * The exam is self-paced and is not timed * On average, the exam takes 1.5 to 2 hours to complete * Students may take the test more than once * Study guides are available in the Career and Resource Center upstairs. Step #6:Meet with the academic advisor. Step #7: Register for Classes.

6. UNM (NOT AS USER FRIENDLY)  Step #1: The student must be a high school junior or senior.  Step #2:The student must have the certification and unconditional recommendation of the high school as well as proof of parental consent prior to participation.  Step #3: Student will download and fill out the UNM Admission application.  Step #4:Student must bring an official high school transcript to UNM. (Requests for official transcript must be emailed to registrar 72 hours in advanced.)  Step #6: Complete the Student Information Release Form. Consider UNM if student want to pursue a four year degree, as CNM class credits do not transfer Meeting the criteria listed above does not mean that the student will be automatically admitted to the Dual Credit Programs. In all cases the final admission determination will be made by the Director of University Advisement.

Discussion with students will include the following:  Research personal career interests or goals  Plan postsecondary education  Explore financial aid opportunities  Examine industry certification or other career options Students will be reasonably informed about following:  Curricular and course options, including honors or advanced placement courses, dual-credit courses, distance learning courses, career clusters, pre-apprenticeship programs or remediation programs that the college and workplace readiness assessments indicate to be appropriate  Opportunities available that lead to different post-high-school options  Alternative opportunities available if the student does not finish a planned curriculum. PED state rules requires that each year’s NSP must be completed within 60 days of the preceding school year. For example, the NSP for grade 9 must be completed before the end of grade 8.

10. CIS College & Career Center CIS College and Career Center (CCC) provides a variety of resources for college and career planning. The CCC is a place where students can come to obtain information on two and four year colleges and universities, testing and test preparation, financial aid and scholarships, career possibilities and college majors descriptions that best fit their interest and career goals and help them get accepted by the institution they select. Provide students with comprehensive and individualized advising that helps them explore career options and be prepared for higher education. Help students manage application process and prepare for the transition to higher education. Offer financial aid and scholarship information: Lottery Scholarship, Bridge to Success Scholarship, CNM scholarship, Grants, and Loans.

11. Self-Discovery helps students develop confidence and lays the foundation for their life today, and their future. By uncovering strengths and unique skills, students will see their own potential. 12. Helping students picture their future will help them engage in school today. The career planning and assessment tools in Naviance allow students to realize their strengths, goals, knowledge, values, and interests in future careers, to help them work toward a path that is inspiring to them.
