5 New Curriculum: third year  SATs at KS1 and KS2 will continue. The new versions were used first in summer 2016.  Children are compared against expected progress and knowledge for each Year Group. We use a system across the school called Target Tracker. Some of the headings are ‘Beginning’, ‘Working Towards’ Secure’ or ‘Secure Plus’

6 The New Curriculum  The new curriculum represents a substantial increase in both the amount of subject matter being taught and the mathematical levels expected of children at each age range from Y3 to Y6. In general, much of what was traditionally taught in Y5/Y6 (3-digit multiplication using formal written methods, formal column addition and subtraction of 4-digit numbers as well as amounts of money, time intervals involving 24 hour clock, two-place decimals...) now has to be taught in Year 4. By the end of Y5, there are now higher key objectives for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. There is also a much bigger emphasis on fractions.

7 Add whole numbers with more than 4 digits and decimals with two decimal places, including formal written methods (columnar addition). Subtract whole numbers with more than 4 digits and decimals with two decimal places, including formal written methods (columnar subtraction). Multiply numbers up to 4 digits by a one- or two-digit number using a formal written method, including long multiplication for two-digit numbers. x 2000 600 90 3 40000 +8000 20 4000 0 1200 0 180060 +12000 +2400 48000240036012 +1800 +360 +60 +12 64632

8 Divide numbers up to 4 digits by a one-digit number using the formal written method of short division and interpret remainders appropriately for the context. All the above examples from Bradfield’s Calculation Policy.
