1 In the top margin on a new page of your yellow notebook, write “Pronouns.” A subject pronoun is a pronoun that replaces a noun as the subject of a sentence. He, she, it, we, and they are examples of subject pronouns. Example: Robert Browning was a poet.  He was a poet. You and I are examples of subject pronouns that don’t need a reference to the noun or phrase that they are replacing. Example: You and I enjoy his poetry. First, copy down these notes. Rewrite each sentence, but… 1.Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a poet during the Victorian period in England. 2.Robert admired her poetry, and he wrote to Elizabeth. 3.Robert and Elizabeth were married in 1846. Use a subject pronoun to replace each underlined word or phrase!

4 Making Masks It will be displayed in the hallway. The purpose of the mask is to answer the question, “Who am I?” We are reflecting on our work with the poem “We Wear the Mask” by Paul Laurence Dunbar. To make your mask, you first have to decide how you want to present yourself to the class. Which aspects of your identity do you want to emphasize? Which aspects of your identity do you wish to conceal? You can decorate both the outside and the inside of the masks. Use the outside to represent the aspects of your identity you openly show to the world and the inside to represent the more private aspects of your identity.

6 I have a “bubbly,” upbeat personality and I try to have a “sunny” disposition. I am a perfectionist; I always try to do my very best the first time around I drew Lucky Charms cereal because although my family comes from Ireland, I don’t really know that culture or history. It’s very “Americanized” for me. I try to be funny. I enjoy people with a sense of humor. My education is very important to me. I am a lifelong learner. I still take college classes to learn new things! I feel obligated to always look put together. Except on the weekends! I love all my students as if you were my own kids!

7 One of my largest insecurities is my fear that I am not being the best teacher possible. I worry whether or not I am doing all I possibly can for my students. (I also worry about you guys a lot in general!)

8 Tuesday, August 16 th 1.Find your seat quickly and quietly. 2.Check the board for necessary materials. 3.Take the materials out of your backpack and put your backpack in a cubby. 4.Sit down in your seat and read silently. You may find a book in my library if you forgot your own independent reading book today. 5.We will silently read for 15 minutes. I’ll start the timer once everyone is quietly reading! VOICE LEVEL=ZERO (silent) Sharpen pencil now. Sit in assigned seat. ROUTINE REMINDERS Necessary materials. Backpack in cubby.
