Bottlik Page 2 How to get a good grade Create an organized collection of the class materials (e.g., a three ring binder or an organized file structure on your laptop) Read ahead Come to class Bring your class materials to class Stay awake and participate Ask questions (there are no stupid questions) Take notes of items not in the class notes (many students print out the class notes ahead of class and then take notes on them) Do homework at leisure, make sure it is correct Do homework after studying the material

Bottlik Page 3 How to get a good grade If you have trouble with the homework (in this order): Ask a classmate (get to know as many as possible) E-mail the TA or go to her (his) office hours E-mail the instructor Go to the instructor’s office hours Compare your returned homework to the provided answers and resolve any differences (this is your responsibility, not the grader’s). Ask for help if you cannot find your error Read for understanding, do exercises Work hard early in the semester, not at the end Don’t let either the simplicity or apparent complexity of the material fool you Be critical of all information
