1 Wimbledon College Briefing for Rhetoric Parents 14th September 2016

2 College Prayer Lord, teach us to be generous: to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek to rest; to labour and to ask for no reward save that of knowing we do your will. Amen.

17 Sixth Form Standards Studies Attendance – thumbprint am and pm Punctuality – by 8.25 every day Participation Responsibility Dress code

18 Successful Study Rhetoric pupils have never finished all the work they could do! Routine for working – place, time, etc Use of specifications, past papers, mark schemes, etc Thinking/reading beyond the specification Additional resources from subject teachers

19 Files/folders Students may choose to have a weekly file and more substantial folders at home, which must be brought in for checking if required. They may choose to have their folders divided by teacher, by unit or by topic and they should seek advice from subject teachers or the Sixth Form team as to how to best arrange the relevant information. The following expectations are clearly helpful to ensure that the folders aid effective learning and revision: All work dated including handouts An attendance record to lessons Copies of any work missed Contact details for a ‘buddy’ student Effective use of dividers

21 Exams Summer 2016- reflection Increased rigour in examinations – marking and questions, grade boundaries changed Greater % of papers on the harder side of exam board parameters Fewer changes on ‘reviews’ Increased lack of confidence in consistency of exam board marking

33 non scholae sed vitae discimus “I am keen to study Engineering in order to work on finding solutions for significant problems, particularly in developing countries. My EPQ project this year has examined affordable types of energy production, and I strive to continue to use my own interest and skills to help others, just as I have learnt at Wimbledon College through the Jesuit ethos that has lead me to believe that I can truly be a man for others. ” “ I'm proud because the school teaches you life skills without you realising, it's implemented in you from a young age and when you reach sixth form you are mature enough to realise this and use the skills wisely in day to day life.” “Going to a Jesuit school has left me with a sense of belonging to something greater than myself. I am both proud and grateful to say that I have received a Jesuit education. ”
