Report of SMB/SG 10 Wearable Smart Devices Tadashi Ezaki Ulrike Haltrich AGS Meeting 28 September 2016 Frankfurt

Scope SG 10 clarify the terminology and obtain agreed understanding of Wearable Smart Devices (WSDs) gather and share information on the market needs of WSDs make inventory of WSDs related activities within IEC make inventory of WSDs related activities outside IEC identify the standardization themes, relevant TC/SCs and any gap on WSDs investigate and recommend priorities of work on WSDs and coordinate WSDs related activities within IEC Co-project leaders: JP and KR Members: NC nominated experts from 8 countries (CN, DE, FI, IT, JP, KR, SE, US) and 11 appointed TC representatives from IEC TCs 47, 62, 91, 100, 101, 106, 108, 110, 111, 119 and ISO/IEC JTC 1 2

Deliverables of SG 10 Report to SMB with recommendations on WSDs related standardization activities under the scope Market needs information which may include requirements and standards necessary for entry into the market place if possible Roadmap of WSDs related standardization (priority) Matrix on WSDs standardization items and TC/SC activities (inventory) 3

Possibility of new TC SG 10 held three f2f meetings between Nov. 2015 and June 2016 SG 10 identified standardisation topics not covered by existing IEC TC/SCs including –electronic textiles –areas related to connectivity, adaptability and reliability, for example, washability, flexibility and bio-compatibility SG 10 recognized need to establish a new TC which addresses those standardization items in IEC Proposed title of new TC: Wearable electronic devices and technologies Final report of SG 10 for consideration at SMB meeting in October 2016 4

Proposed scope of new TC Wearable electronic devices and technologies Standardization in the field of wearable electronic devices and technologies which may include, –electronic textile materials and devices –patchable materials and devices –implantable materials and devices –edible materials and devices Excluded: Standardization for specific items in the field of the following IEC TCs: TC 47, TC 62, TC 100, TC 108, TC 110, TC 119, SyC AAL and relevant areas of ISO/IEC JTC 1 Note: A WG or a special group may be formed in the TC to liaise among the related TC/SCs to avoid duplication of work. 5
