INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION Copyright © IEC, Geneva, Switzerland Session 4 update Presented to TC100 AGS 15 May 2011 AGS Session 4: Smart grid, LVDC and the EE related issues

Content 1. Updates of SG3, SG4 and relating activities. 2. Result of Session 4 investigation 5/15/2012For TC100/AGS 2

Updates of SG3, SG4 and relating activities. A) Use Case development in TC8 AHG4 a. Result of Tokyo meeting (Mar, 2012) B) SG3 Roadmap update C) SG4 Meeting report For TC100/AGS 3 5/15/2012

A. General Use Case development in TC8 AHG4  AHG4 meeting was held on Mar at Tokyo.  The tool for Use Case development was decided.  No other progress for the development of Use Case was done because of low participation.  No team leader except methodology team didn’t show up.  Next meeting; Oct. at Oslo For TC100/AGS 4 5/15/2012

B. SG3 Roadmap update  SG3 requested all relating TCs/SCs for providing updates/comments toward revised SG3 Roadmap.  TC100 recognized the lacking of TC100 HEMS standards and input add following 3 standards;  IEC 62394 Service diagnostic interface for consumer electronics products and networks - Implementation for ECHONET  IEC 62480 Multimedia home network - Network interfaces for network adapter  IEC 62457 Multimedia home networks - Home network communication protocol over IP for multimedia household appliances (All these standards are parts of ECHONET.) For TC100/AGS 5 IEC Smart Grid Standardization Roadmap Table of content IEC Smart Grid Roadmap Ed.1 (published on 2010) 5/15/2012

C. SG4 Meeting Report  SG4 had a meeting on the mid of Apr. at Washington DC.  No participation from TC100  Refer the unconfirmed meeting notes below; For TC100/AGS 6 Unconfirmed meeting minutes of SG4 5/15/2012

2. Result of Session 4 investigation A) Result of Session 4 brainstorming session at Melbourne. B) Other possibilities For TC100/AGS 7 5/15/2012

A. Result of Brainstorming session at Melbourne  Explained Smart Grid relating activities.  Discussed possible theme that TC100 may be able to contribute.  No concrete idea can be found.  The data format and scheme of visualizing energy consumption is one of example that relates to TC100, however, no strong contribution from members.  Attendees: Tadashi Ezaki, Grace Wei, Yoshikazu Ishii, Michael Stelts, Toshihiro inokuchi and few more. For TC100/AGS 8 5/15/2012

B. Other possibilities  Go back to the title of session 4;  Smart grid, LVDC and the EE related issues  Though can’t be found new theme in Smart Grid area in TC100 scope, should investigate other 2 area, LVDC and Energy Efficiency.  TC100 can contribute for Energy Efficiency.  To reduce stand-by energy is one of important item for realizing energy efficient society.  Many products are connected to plug without used.  The power consumption of no-load condition is one of topic.  refer EN50563 for AC/DC adopter  Network Stand-by is next challenge  Many network product, such as LAN router, is connected to the plug during no communication especially in the house during day time.  For realizing peak shift, TC100 can contribute to reduce the waste energy consumption.  TA12 is welcome to promote standardization in this area. For TC100/AGS 9 5/15/2012
