2 PEOPLE  Nigeria is Africa's most populous country with a population of 177,155,754.  It is comprised of more than 250 ethnic groups who speak various languages.  The most popular and politically influential are the Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo.

3 RELIGION  There are two main religions in Nigeria. Islam and Christianity.  Northern Nigerians are predominantly Muslim, while southern Nigerians practice Islam and Christianity and some indigenous religions.

4 GOVERNMENT STRUCTURE & LEADERSHIP  CAPITAL CITY; ABUJA  36 STATES AND A FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY  INDEPENDENCE DAY; OCTOBER 1, 1960  LEGAL SYSTEM: MIXED LEGAL SYSTEM OF ENGLISH COMMON LAW, ISLAMIC LAW( IN 12 NORTHERN STATES) AND TRADITIONAL LAW  3 branches of government, executive, legislative and judicial.

5 EDUCATION STRUCTURE  Nigeria's educational system follows a K-12 format. Six years of primary school education and six years of secondary school education before people can be enrolled in any university or school of higher learning.  Primary and secondary school education are free in some states in Nigeria and there is a more expensive private school option for kids that come from wealthy families.  There is a secondary school final examination known as the West African Examination Council Exam that students take equivalent to the American High School Diploma.

6 HEALTH CARE  Healthcare in Nigeria is jointly managed by both the federal and state governments.  The cost of healthcare is relatively low compared to westernized countries and the most healthcare institutions are run by the government

7 HOUSING  Nigerian housing conditions are still relatively poor.  Shantytowns and slums are very common in urban areas  Overcrowding in urban areas is a serious problem and only about 27% of urban dwellers have access to piped water

8 CLOTHING  In Nigeria, the different tribes and cultures have their own dressing styles which is in line with their cultural heritage.  The women are always dressed very conservatively especially in the predominantly Muslim North.

9 GREETINGS &COURTESIES  The Yoruba people of the south of Nigeria greet each other by the males bowing the head to older people and the females greet people by kneeling.  The Hausa people who are predominantly Muslim greet each other with basic phrases like good morning, afternoon or evening but avoid any sort of physical contact especially between married women and other individuals.

10 CLIMATE  The climate of Nigeria is the tropical wet and dry type  Nigerian climate is mainly affected by rainfall and wind  There are also two main types of weather, which is the rainy season and the dry season.  There is no winter in Nigeria and the temperature is usually high most of the year.

11 TRANSPORTATION The three major types of transportation in Nigeria are water, land and air. The urban areas in Nigeria are more populated by buses which are used for mass transit. Lagos, which can be considered the commercial capital of Nigeria is one of the most congested cities in the world
