2 STEM courses at West Kent College A variety of courses in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Pathway courses from Level 1 to Degree level Focus on vocational content and practical workshops

3 Science and maths provision includes: Science hub - Science Learning Centre South East - CPD for teachers Partners in the Further Maths Network - promoting twilight classes Real life research projects eg. Ecology Science Fairs The quality of teaching is paramount

5 Engineering and Motor Vehicle Centre Engineering Motor Vehicle

7 Enrolments in STEM areas:

8 1.In September 2004 our Construction Crafts Centre opened at North Farm retail park in Tunbridge Wells; and BTEC Forensic Science was introduced 2. In September 2005 our Engineering and Motor Vehicle department moved alongside Key Changes in Student Enrolments numbers 3. In September 2006 new courses at both centres were introduced including Motorsport

9 Key Investments Leasing two large industrial units for Engineering and Construction Invested circa £5m to date on these facilities (Excluding staffing costs) in the period 2003/07 Kent Science Resource Centre - Foundation Degree Life Science Lab Technology & Bio-Manufacturing - Supported by CBI, IoD, Sittingbourne Enterprise Hub and SEEDA

11 Future Plans Circa £70m ‘Campus 21’ project: - rebuild of main campus in Tonbridge - purchase and development of Engineering and Construction units

12 Future Plans for the Curriculum Offer a comprehensive range of courses at all levels for STEM subjects: courses to include new Diplomas -a particular challenge apprenticeship programmes science teacher-training and post graduate research facilities Train to Gain Seek to improve information, advice and guidance in local schools
